The forces in Mosul were supposedly “trained” and abandoned their posts so quickly that the French are envious.
it takes skill to write a statement that is accurate, ironic, sad, and funny all at the same time.. *hat tip to you*
This is topical.
“The forces in Mosul were supposedly trained and abandoned their posts so quickly that the French are envious.”
From what I’ve read commissions were granted through politics and favoritism, not merit. Lacking merit the officers fled at the first sign of the enemy. No officers = dysfunctional units without support. Only a fool would stay behind when their Command and Control as well as their support had abandoned them. They were fixed-in-place and blind, without leadership waiting to be cutoff and killed. But some stayed and fought anyways. And God bless them for that. They died in the service of their country, not their leaders or politicians.
This is a huge indictment on the IA leadership. Heads should roll literally for this. The government now sees first hand the cost of permitting the politicization of the military.
