The Obama administration likely will succumb to growing pressure to "do something" kinetic and dramatic in Iraq, and when it does, it will most likely be air and missile strikes against ISIS targets. This could relieve the political pressure on the President: His critics continue to blame him for abdicating U.S. leadership in Syria and in Iraq --which now faces the advancing extremist militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
But answering the political mail in Washington is not the same thing as dealing with, let alone resolving, the complex issues on the ground that have led to this crisis. To do that would require a comprehensive reengagement strategy, even without boots on the ground. And President Barack Obama should not be drawn into a veritable Iraq war III.
Most of Obama's detractors engage in what I call "woulda/coulda/shoulda" criticism. That is to say, if the President had only invested more time and effort in negotiating a status of forces agreement with the government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, left a residual presence there, enforced his chemical weapons red line in Syria and backed the moderate opposition there, we wouldn't be seeing the ISIS jihadi rampage playing out in both countries.

I know! Let’s send some war ships into thePersian Gulf.
Of course we’ve already said we’re not going to be sucked in, but what the hey. It makes a nice picture of feeble resolve. It also gives Putin the diversion he needs to overrun Ukraine.
Vladimir loves it when a plan comes together. Obama’s got lots of flexibility for him to exploit.
Obama clearly has no clue, so we might be better off if he just dithers.
I hate to break it to communist news network, but zero can’t get “suckered into” something he created and is already deeply involved in.
Of course he won’t. It’s going according to plan.
I hate to say it, but given the LEADER, I must agree.
There is no correction, once a abortion has been performed.
I don’t see any “mounting pressure” to do anything anyway.
“I dont see any mounting pressure to do anything anyway”.
I think Americans, having grown weary of the double dealing and such, are just fine with letting these different factions kill each other. In fact, hope the stay at it for awhile.....
We left that shit hole called Iraq now lets stay out.
I am all for going back to destroy the country, kill ALL of the enemy and then rebuild as we did in Germany and Japan. No more sending limited troops with limited ROE’s and getting Americans killed for NOTHING.............
Exactly.
While Obama deserves plenty of blame for making things worse, the overall mess is rooted in the fact that we haven’t fought to win since the end of WWII.
...and then there are the parents of dead soldiers now wondering “Why?” Before, maybe they had sort of reason, now there is none. All the blood now belongs to Obama, especially the blood spilled before Obama. It is looking like they died for nothing.
Obama’s just hiking his skirt.
Bring back the Draft. Have a dedicated War Tax. Spread the sacrifice to ALL Americans and go back and make sure our Troops didn’t die in vain.
No stomach to fight in Iraq right now, small sample but probably accurate.
Almost 70% say no.
His critics continue to blame him for abdicating U.S. leadership in Syria and in Iraq —
The guy is POTUS, Iran and Syria and Iraq are loose and spinning out of control...yet it’s bozo’s ‘critics’...
On the one hand I would like nothing better than to see 0bama get sucked into his very own personal Viet Nam. On the other hand, knowing that this clown would lose 100 out of 100 schoolyard “Capture the Flag” exercises, and that American lives are at stake, I have to agree - let’s stay out.
As far as I’m concerned, soebarkah is at the head of these rabid islamists. Having Abdullah Abdullah as President of the US could hardly be seen much differently.
Aaron David Miller need not fear. His hero Zero will not be pulled into doing anything worthwhile or noteworthy for integrity.
Instead, Zero will leave America poorer, weaker, and more disdained than when he seized power.
