Our kids knew EXACTLY what majors they would get help with and which ones they were on their own for.
They listened.
College seems to be the new system to keep the serfs in line. Graduate with huge loans to repay. Work any job diligently to pay the loan back and support a family. No time to question the BS coming out of DC or on the MSM.
Maybe indentured servant would be a better term.

Besides the usual suspects who take these classes to prolong high school, I’m sure they are used by people who are looking at a field that requires ANY degree. A lot of police departments want a degree, and to get a commission in the military you need one; I don’t believe there is a condition that it be a productive or real one...
