Former President George H.W. Bush can no longer use his legs, but he didn't let that stop him from keeping a vow he made five years ago: to jump from an aircraft on his 90th birthday, which is Thursday. Continue reading
Former President George H.W. Bush, left, strapped to Sgt. 1st Class Mike Elliott, a retired member of the Army's Golden Knights parachute team, lands on the lawn at St. Anne's Episcopal Church after making a tandem parachute jump near Bush's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. More on this story
"It's a wonderful day in Maine - in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump," the nation's 41st president announced on Twitter.
Bush intended to jump from a helicopter with a retired member of the Golden Knights, the Army's parachute team, near his summer home on the Maine coast, spokesman Jim McGrath said.

Wow, I thought a year or so ago Bush Senior was knocking on deaths door, he must have significantly improved....
Jumping out of a plane to save a life or to defend one’s country is admirable but doing it for no good reason other than thrills is rather dumb. If he had died doing this the jokes would never end.
Doing it for thrills is the best reason of all. If he splats on the rocks, he's had a good life.
When you get to be 90, you can get your kicks however you like. Let the man be.
Still more courage and bravery than the current occupant in chief.
Zacly.
I was ragging on my 95 YO mother for eating globs of butter on toast and my twin sister took me aside and said.”Leave her alone its not going to kill her if it does its her choice”
It opened my eyes!
- Former President GHW Bush died today when his parachute malfunctioned and he landed on a coastal rockbed.
- Former President GHW Bush died today after pooping his shorts one too many times in a wheelchair.
Just checking in to see if he was intending to use a parachute. Thanks for Clinton you miserable sob.
He was in the hospital for a few days getting a stent. They ordered a heart healthy/diabetic diet for him. It was the most vile food I have ever seen and he refused to eat it. I would go down to the cafeteria and bring food up to him. The look on the cardio doctor's face was priceless when he walked in and MrD was eating a bacon sandwich. He is happy and feels good, that's what I care about most.
When the Lord is ready for him he will go. I will miss this sweet guy terribly but I refuse to spend our remaining months or years together fighting over what he gets to eat.
Men seek excitement and danger.
Unfortunately, some idiot gave him a parachute.
Wasn’t this man just in the hospital a few months ago, gravely ill?
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. It's not as hard nor as dangerous as it looks and when you skydive you are living life...
Cool, and best wishes to him, but I wish he would have chosen a career other than politics.
“other than thrills is rather dumb”
Nothing wrong with continuing to live as long as your heart beats.
I fly gliders and have been doing so for 37 years. Sometimes I fly it close to its approved structural limits. Statistically I will not "augur in." But if I do, I will go doing what I have love.
Either one works for me.
The first time he parachuted he was the only survivor.
