House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) plans to step down from his leadership post by the end of July, setting off a weeks-long scramble for the chambers number two job, according to three Republicans familiar with his plans.
Cantor will formally announce his plans later Wednesday in a meeting with his House Republican colleagues in the basement of the U.S. Capitol.

Why wait.
No time like the present.
One thing that immediately occurred to me is...will he run as an “independent” in November?
Ha ha....
My thoughts, too.
I can see him being vindictive to get back at conservatives. It’s the RINO way.
According to the article, no.
It was not immediately clear what options, if any, Cantor might pursue for the general election in November. David Wasserman, a political analyst for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, said Virginia’s “sore loser” law prevented him from running as an independent. He may be able to mount a write-in bid, but that would complicate the race among Brat, Democrat Jack Trammel and several other candidates.

Jeb Hensarling, TEXAS. Leadership posts should be reserved for those from states that have voted Republican in two of the last three presidential elections. There is NO reason that leadership posts should be held by those from perennial Leftist states.
The GOP-E is now going to hope the democrats win the seat in the general election. “This will show how destructive those conservatives are to the party.”
A couple write-ins and an independent to split the votes should do the trick.
BUMP!
Cantor is a sneaky bastard who, with Boehner and the other House Amnesty Whores, could very well try to ram down our throats THIS SUMMER an Amnesty Bill for Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico.
“In a caucus deeply divided between establishment Republicans and fire-breathing conservatives, these were the two who had shown some ability to keep order.”
At least, in place of “establishment Republicans” they didn’t write “moderate Republicans.” Fire-breathing conservatives...gosh! Doesn’t that sound like the attractive person you’d invite for dinner? They couldn’t call them “real Republicans” or, perhaps, “Constitution supporting Republicans?” Fire-breathing...
I kinda liked fire breathing. =D
July huh? Amnesty was scheduled for around July 4th...Cantor gonna stick around to help it through if at all possible
So...he still has the ability to push amnesty, but the reward of Speaker is no longer available. It will be interesting to see what will be necessary to *encourage* his support.
“I kinda liked fire breathing. “
I like it too, but it was intended to make conservative Republicans repugnant to the writer’s Democratic readers. Who would invite a fire-breather for tea? You’d certainly remove the chintz curtains. Unless you’re another fire-breather, it doesn’t sound like you’d have a good time.
Better they know exactly who they're dealing with. The time for tiptoeing through the tulips is over. We're tired of getting the shaft by the GOPe. They can either take heed, or ignore us "fire breathers" at their own peril.
At least “fire breathing” implies passion, something that’s been missing for far to long from the right.
Long Range Congressional Weather Forecast: seven weeks of high pressure amnesty followed by three months of howling hot air, culminating in a massive transition from gloomy to bright conservative climate change for the next ten years.
An interesting decision. Who will succeed him?
Other names include McCarthy of California, who will cave on amnesty just like Cantor, among others. McCarthy is the 'favorite' (he's the GOPe #3 man, after Cantor)
