Actor Danny Glover is leading a rally in San Francisco on Saturday to support bigger tax breaks for Californias film and television industry.
Supporters of Assembly Bill 1839 are trying to pressure lawmakers to sweeten the current program, which is capped at $100 million a year and 20 percent of production costs smaller than rival incentive programs in Georgia, Louisiana and New York, Variety magazine reported.
The 10 a.m. rally will be held at San Franciscos Fairmont Hotel. Also attending are Assembly members Marc Levine and Rob Bonta, San Francisco supervisors David Chiu and Mark Farrell, Teamsters VP Rome Aloise and IATSE Local 16 VP Eddie Raymond.

Hey, Danny, if your ideas apply to the movie business, wouldn’t they also apply to every other kind of business? And wouldn’t they apply to individuals as well?
How about no Danny, Hollywood puts out a bunch of depraved loser garbage
But I thought high tax rates were fair and would re-distibute wealth to the poor at about 8 cents on the dollar per conficated monies from the rich.
Sadly many if not most private “charities” move even less of their donors contributions to help anyone.
The Left, shameless, liars, parasites that kill the host and then brag about it.
You mean Danny “The Socialist” Glover, kindred pal to Hugo Chavez and the Castros, is crying for tax relief? Geez, what a tool, what a friggin tool.
Where are the leftists proclaiming “tax breaks for the rich”?
While taxes hurt the industry, it is unions have all but killed “Hollywood”. It is cheaper to make movies outside of the control of unions (where I don’t think it is the wages are so much the problem as the union rules on who can do what).
Oh, the irony...
Toronto and Vancouver are the new Hollywood and Burbank.
Oh! Where to start, where to start!
So Danny, ain’t communism grand?
Hey Danny, how about also advocating that the bill should include a minimum wage of $15 (or higher) to every member of the production crew?
Now isn’t that a hoot? The one-percenters who love Obama and his socialist agenda now want a tax break so the little people can further subsidize them.
so....danny....you back the tax and spend democrats 99%.
the other percent is for you and your ilk to be the elitists and be tax free.
disgusting slime all.
Taxes for thee, but not for me!
yes but Whoopi says Hollywood rich isn’t really rich rich
Comrade Glover,
it is with heavy heart that I must chastise you for your lack of faith in the Soviet ideal. Higher taxes are good for everybody. Comrade, you must purge your mind of revanchist, bourgeois filth such as ‘lower taxes.’
Now, please to be addressing global warming/climate change before the earthquakes it breeds split the People’s Republic of California from the continent and cause it to slide into the sea. Long live our savior, Big Bro’!
I’m looking for work, by the way, and can hit a mark. Call me.
Comrade Cantor
They must pay their fair share.....
No tax breaks... Pay your “fair share”, your communist POS.
The movie industry is seen by Sacramento as a cash cow. Just like every other industry still standing.
Won’t happen.
