But for those who are experienced we should not admonish inexperienced conservatives, we should however point out whenever we can the nature and possibility of the deception. Sometimes it is as easy as pointing to the source such the as the NY Times, MSNBC etc.

There is a select group of anti-Catholic zealot bigots on this site that while they will give a jaundiced view to anything else from the MSM, they are more than willing Heck even eager to believe the least negative thing about the Catholic Church. This occurs most frequently in those that are ex- Catholics or claim to be ex-Catholics.

By all means, let's investigate this high, wide and deep. In the end, I don't think we'll be blaming these poor childrens' deaths on the only people who labored to save them.

Heck NO, lets just automatically jump to worst possible scenario conclusion. We can get all the usual suspects all stirred up make a lot of really inane comments and then God forbid the facts come out and contradict this narrative we have worked so hard to disseminate, we can jump to a new story that might be even juicer.

And, by all means, let's not forget the rabid ex-Protestant, now anti-everyone-but-us-Catholics that automatically jump to the BEST possible scenario conclusion before all the facts are even known! There are many of the usual suspects who react this way to anything that can possibly be seen as negative or critical of their church, not to mention, the quick piling on of those who dared post an article that was disturbing and had implications far beyond the Catholic church. Someone needs some Windex.

There are four or five articles now on Free Republic concerning this topic. Isn't that a little excessive?

No, I honestly don’t think so, boatbums. The first, fraudulent newsflash circled the globe 25 times while the truth was still tying its shoes.

The words that some keep missing in this developing story are "more likely to be", "might have been", coulda, woulda, shoulda... The whole story isn't really known yet and, contrary to the comments of some here, NOBODY here gleefully piled on or wished for the worst. I was shocked to read the initial news report, NOT because I was looking for something, anything, to place blame on the Roman Catholic church, but because of the implications of how the rest of the world would see the discrepancy between prolife professions and prolife actions towards children born out of wedlock. I genuinely hope the facts do not line up with the initial conclusions. Lord knows, Christians have gotten a collective black eye from the scandals of child sex abuse, we don't need a worse one concerning children born into a church-sponsored home who were mistreated or neglected or who died because of it.

Like I said in the other thread, the pro-abortion "rights" crowd already asserts we only care about children before they are born and couldn't care less about them after they escape abortion. It's too bad this became another example of CYA instead of an honest investigation and a withholding of judgment until ALL the facts are known.

Keep it. You probably need it.

While you are busy patting yourself on the back would you mind directing me to some of the posts from protestants advocating the much vaunted restraint and advising all to wait till the evidence is all in.

Thank you.

“Theological hope” is not a diminution of hope. Truth has a value in itself, even when no one wants to know it and resists being told.

This is, let’s not forget, the original and noble purpose of the Free Republic: to cut through the disinformation of the mass media. Keep up the good work with courage and pride.

The whole story isn't really known yet

Well, true. But this is what we know:

  1. The person originating the story, Catherine Corless, denies making any references to a septic tank and never used verbiage like "dump the bodies".
  2. Other locals prayed at and decorated the graves for years, and apparently did not find anything shocking about the mass graves apart from the fact that it is, well, a grave.
  3. The shocking aspect of the story comes specifically and singly from the idea that someone found a septic tank an appropriate burial method. Remove that, and all you have is a mass grave in a country where misery was common, properly cared for by the locals.

In short, we don't know much but that the shocker of dead children dumped in septic tanks is a fabrication.

Thank you. There’s more that’s known flagrant fabrication now, but those are the principal points.

Yes, also that the description of the “septic tank” matches burial crypts in the region and in the time period,

Troll is as troll does. RegulatorCountry has been a calm voice of reason in this debate - as he is on others - whereas many Catholics have exhibited the distinctly trollish behavior of bullying, name calling, personal attacks and condemnation for simply stating an opinion. Why don’t you read ALL the articles and not just the defensive, pro-catholic ones? And, if you are not yet aware, an investigation is ongoing - all the facts are not yet known.
