It isn't in the personal interest of most reps or senators to fool with impeachment and conviction. The pending rotten fate of their nation is not sufficient reason to risk their power and wealth.

To my knowledge, not a single rat senator took any heat at all for not voting to boot the guilty Bill Clinton.

Now, if the states still appointed senators, the senators would be immune from media criticism. THAT would be a different story.

State legislators wouldn't be hearing from constituents and passing their concerns along to their Senators?

Presidents are still, in theory, elected by the EC, which is chosen by the state legislatures in exactly the same way the Senate originally was. Doesn't seem to have immunized Republican presidents from media criticism.

Democratic presidents are of course immune for unrelated reasons.

Somehow, someway, We the People have to let our Representatives and Senators know that failure to impeach means that they will be voted out of office.

I agree that repealing the 17th Amendment would be a GOOD THING!
