Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed a bill to repeal Common Core standards in the state on Thursday, saying Oklahomans are capable of developing our own academic standards that will be better than Common Core.
The state is now clear to formulate new English and math standards specifically tailored for Oklahoma students.
Now is the time for Oklahomans parents, citizens, educators, employers and elected officials to unite behind the common goal of improving our schools. That begins with doing the hard work of building new, more rigorous Oklahoma standards, Fallin said

From common core to common goals... clever.
Good on you Mary!
Wish Nikki Halley (SC) had your guts.
Did Common Core change since she signed THAT bill into law? Her statement seems to suggest it did, but I’m not so sure that’s true.
I’m still not gonna vote for her for anything again. She signed CC into law and now she’s blaming others for it as she signs the repeal.
Maybe the financially conservative HOR we elected will stop funding it. (sarcasm)
How did this get so complicated?
She’ll be re-elected without my vote.
Add 2 more r’s...respect & responsibility. Boy, are those days gone.
A crooked judge will just overturn the decision.
And common sense.
Perhaps the students will be able to master basic arithmetic without counting on their fingers.
Or not.
I would want to know exactly what the Governor vetoed and what they're looking to replace it with. Indiana and mentioned GOP presidential candidate Mike Pence, pulled this bait and switch. Common Core was dumped and then renamed and adopted again.
They are determined to institute this control-freak agenda. They will lie, cheat and steal to do it, Dem or GOP.
Throw away the calculators and get out the slide rules. That’ll teach them real math.
We went to the moon on slide rules. With computers we’ve never been back.
Actually, as my bro says, it’s uncommon sense now!
Sadly, so true.
I remember slide rules—worked pretty good. I also had a HP scientific calculator, cost a fortune—this was in 1982.
A classmate even had a programmable calculator that he relied on to think for him. Well, he failed every test he relied on the calculator to think for him.
There is a beautiful symmetry in electronics, calculus, algebra, trig, etc. Music also, circle of fifths, 13 tones, chord structure, all the musical scales, harmony and dissonance.
God created all of this for us and gave us the mind to work it out.
Praise God for that. All of it falls into place, you just need to be interested enough to examine it.
Yes, praise God. It is beautiful, all of it. Perfect.
Also, add to that the color spectrum and the entire electro-magnetic spectrum. And the workings of a single cell from any organism, the vastness of its complexity, the absolutely irreducible complexity of all living things.
Every day, without exception, I awake with a renewed sense of gratitude for a Creator, you know He could have been bad, an evil entity, could have been like a bad kid, a bully.
But our Creator is good. And He will never change.
Sometimes looking at the unending vastness of the Universe, at the fact of our very existence, that the Author of it all could care less about me, about us, that He was not caught by surpise, that He knows the end from the beginning, that He knows what I am going to think, to say, and to do before I do, and that I am just running out the videotape He has already watched, floors me.
Why is God good? Why are we even here to ask the question?
If one did not know we are here because He made it so, what difference would it make what one did in their life?
Or to others?
Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mussolini, and all the terror camps in the world, JRA, Red Army Faction, 17 November, the IRA, the PRIA, Sendero Luminoso, ETA, and on and on:
It’s just an ant farm, step on it and kill the ants, keep a few for slaves, nothing lasts beyond your own consciousness or your own choices, so make it all about you until you die and enter a void. You cease to exist, you are a light bulb that has been tuened off. No responsibility. It’s all about you.
Cristopher Hitchens died of cancer. He maintained up to his death, as far as anyone can ascertain, that there was no God. He hated the thought. His brother, who as far as I know, is still alive. His brother was a Christian and Christopher dismissed him as ignorant, and as far as I know was alienated from him until he died.
