Jay Carney in 2013: No detainee transfer for Bergdahl 'without consulting Congress'

Did Jay Carney decide to quit his job because he knew about news of the Bergdahl deal coming, and remembered what he had said less than a year ago? The Washington Free Beacon  certainly remembered:

“With regard to the transfer of Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay, we have made — the United States has not made the decision to do that, though we do expect the Taliban to raise this issue in our discussion, if and when those discussions happen,” Carney said. “As we have long said, however, we would not make any decisions about transfer of any detainees without consulting with Congress and without doing so in accordance with U.S. law.”

Carney made the remarks at the press briefing on June 21, 2013. Less than a year later, Congress was not informed as the Obama administration agreed to release five Taliban leaders in exchange for Bergdahl.

Doubtful that this one event drove Carney’s decision to leave. Carney has demonstrated on many occasions an unperturbed ability to obfuscate, ignore, and outright lie.

They're avoiding mentioning Karzai.

Putting this whole little scene together, he had to go to Afghanistan to sign something. He avoided Karzai.

He outed the CIA top dog in Afghanistan which now keeps him from testifying before Congress or talking to the media...a prisoner in his own country.

If lying bothered Jay Carney he would have made a different career choice and he would adopt a different world view.

One thing about Carney’s efficiency as Obama’s spokesman — he can lie or twist the truth at a moment’s notice without skipping a beat.

The man can lie on his feet.
