A US soldier freed after five years in Taliban captivity is in stable condition in a US military hospital in Germany, officials have said.
Sgt Bowe Bergdahl, 28, is being treated after his release on Saturday in exchange for five senior Afghan Taliban figures held at Guantanamo Bay.
The prisoner swap has been criticised by Republicans who warn it could put Americans at risk in the future.
How he was captured is unclear, with some accusing him of being a deserter.
There is speculation he may have walked away from his base out of disillusionment with the US campaign in Afghanistan.
It is unclear how long Sgt Bergdahl will remain in hospital, where he is receiving treatment for "dietary and nutrition needs", the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center wrote in a statement.

With all the playing of badminton and celebrating Christmas and Easter for the past five years with the Taliban, we can expect him to be in more than just stable condition.
What game is the military playing?
I guess we can negotiate with terrorists now if we don’t call them that.
Trust me on this. He’s a walking embarrassment for Obama. We may not see it, because the press won’t cover it. But if somebody does, perhaps a UK or Canadian paper, he’ll make Obama look even worse.
Obama has forbidden the military from conducting a tribunal to determine if this asshat deserted or was captured. The DIA has a classified file on him. I would like to see a congressman subpoena that file.

Of course Obama negotiated with terrorists. He negotiated with terrorists in Benghazi to get the Ambassador’s body back and to get those 34 CIA employees released.
Obama and Hillary are in s**t up to their eyeballs. They provided aid and comfort to our enemies. That is formally known as “treason”.

Hillary and Obama were up to no good when they overthrew the government of Libya. Al Qaeda caught them and smacked them in the mouth at Benghazi.
The purpose of the attack at Benghazi was to let Hillary and Obama know that they were going to be blackmailed. Benghazi just locked that blackmail program down. Hillary and Obama have been paying blackmail to Al Qaeda. They aren’t using their own money. That means that you and me and every other American taxpayer are paying blackmail because these two dumbasses, Hillary and Obama, were trying to pull some sneaky s**t.
$5,000,000,000 “missing” from the State Department? Come on! American military equipment sent to Libya after Benghazi so that it could be “stolen”? Come on! Blackmail. Treason.
In exchange for the lives of these fine soldiers and the give away of five Taliban commanders, we get a potential jihadi to join his proven jihadi father. Treason comes to mind but this is worse, if that’s possible.
