Meteorologists are paid to talk expansively about the weather. But in Canada, they have to choose their words a little more carefully.
“Our Weather Preparedness Meteorologists are experts in their field of severe weather and speak to this subject. Questions about climate change or long-term trends would be directed to a climatologist or other applicable authority,” said Danny Kingsberry, a spokesman for Environment Canada.
The assumption seems to be that the intent of this order is to hush up criticism of Canada’s supposedly bad environmental record. In other words, don’t blame climate change for bad weather.
But it also could function to control dissent. Climatology is a field that has grown fat and happy off warmist fears.

Canadian govt. is cagey: The more AGW/CC/CD alarmists talk, the more people learn that what they’re pushing is fiction and junk science.

Slightly off topic, but Canada censors their media. They have censored people such as Dr. Dobson from Focus on the Family off of radio in Canada, as Dr. Dobson has urged us to reject homosexuality. He’s not allowed to be on the air in Canada discussing such subjects.
Canada is often looked to as a model of what America can be, in terms of health care and other issues. But, Canada just doesn’t have 1st amendment freedom of speech rights that we enjoy here.

Not sure what it means here - but THE MAN, in this case, has a point - weather and climate are two different things, completely, and linking the two (i.e., blaming cars for a specific hurricane) is simply wrong.

Not really - just like it’s not car buyers that pay the salaries of auto workers - or, for that matter, it’s not parents that pay the teachers (certainly not in public schools...as much as idiot parents would like to think otherwise).
The person that signs your paycheck is the one that pays you...and they can set the rules, and fire you if you don’t comply - at least in a free market. Working for a government employer does not automatically give you the right to go to media and start trashing that employer.

Nope, I’m talking about people that have a boss that signs their paycheck, either private or public sector.
Elected officials, on the other hand, can say what they please (and then answer for it).
Canada has an economy dominated by commodities, and fossil fuels make up a big part of it.
Well, in recent years, some of the most widely reported climate change "dissenters" have been TV meteorologists. They deal with atmosperic models on a daily basis, and know their limitations and weaknesses, which is why they tend to be so sceptical of man-made global warming claims.
So this is an attempt to keep weathermen (who the public might trust) from trashing the party line, and forcing information to only come from the party's own sources...

But the one signing the paycheck HAS a boss — the Canadian Taxpayers. Isn’t this paycheck signer RESPONSIBLE for giving the ultimate boss the TRUTH?
In this case, he is SUPPRESSING the truth.
Now if the Taxpayers don’t give a S**T about the truth, then they get everything they deserve.
But in a better world, THE REAL BOSS will tell the paycheck signer to cease and desist.
Actually, given Canada’s government and their HUGE effort to get oil from their tar sands, I suspect the government is on our side and telling the left-wing weathermen to SHUT UP about global warming and stick with predicting the next blizzard.
We simply don’t know enough, and probably never will know enough, to figure out who is right regarding global warming - so the government there is simply sick of people who have not even earned status as climate experts, talking like they are experts. It’s great that they’ve been told to shut up and do their job.
If you want to know about what the weather will be like for the next few days, ask a meteorologist.
If you want to know what the weather will be in 100 years, ask the politician who got the most votes.
In Canada and the USA, votes trump Science.

Left wing or right wing, I still find this whole effort to silence them disturbing. Regardless of whether I agree with these meteorologists or not on global warming, my principle is this — LET FREE SPEECH REIGN.
If they want to spout a lie, let them, I believe others can counter them with the truth. And LET ME, the OBSERVER, decide whose side the truth is on.
The muzzle surely Applies to official pronouncements not to speech off the record
