Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow slam WaPo movie critic linking their comedies to Santa Barbara murders

Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow are not laughing over a film critic's op-ed that suggested their movies could have influenced the mass murder in Santa Barbara, Calif.

In a column published Sunday in the Washington Post, Ann Hornaday blamed the rage that fueled mass murderer Elliot Rodger's rampage — which left six dead and 13 wounded — on the entertainment industry, in which the killer's father worked as a second unit director.

"How many students watch outsized frat-boy fantasies like (Rogen's) ‘Neighbors’ and feel, as Rodger did, unjustly shut out of college life that should be full of ‘sex and fun and pleasure’?" she wrote of the 22-year-old's misogynist rants that lamented an "unfulfilled desire" caused by the rejection of women.

"How many men, raised on a steady diet of Judd Apatow comedies in which the shlubby arrested adolescent always gets the girl, find that those happy endings constantly elude them and conclude, 'It's not fair?'"

I actually read the manifesto. It wasn’t movies that warped this little toad’s brain so badly.

It was on-line video games. World of Warcraft specifically.

i thinks it’s kind of funny... so often conservatives get the blame for the things crazy people choose to do... and here, Hollywood stars are getting the blame from someone... even if it is far-fetched—so what... blame cast upon conservatives is usually far-fetched...

even so, i say let the left know how it feels to be blamed for something some individual chose to do...

I don’t have flying cars like Tom Cruise, it’s just not fair! The prostitutes and Johns in my neighborhood are not as pretty as Julia Roberts and Richard Gere it’s not fair! I can’t buy phased plasma rifles in the 40 watt range, it’s just not fair!!!

It’s a “teachable moment”.

Unfortunately the lefties won’t learn a thing.

This is, imo, in and of itself a darn good question.

It is one thing for a young unmarried man to not be able to have sex because young women are chaste and saving themselves for marriage.

It's quite another for everybody else to be having lots and lots of sex, or so he thinks since that's the way the world is portrayed, and he's not.

The first is a function of how society and its moral system works, nothing inherently personal, while the second is a personal rejection and obviously more likely to induce resentment and rage.

I assume most Hollywood types are lefties. Is this true of Rogan and Apatow?

Blaming a movie, or video game is as stupid as blaming the NRA.

Thank you for that well-thought-out reply.

Much of what Hollywood creates is morally corrosive crap, so there’s bound to be some negative consequences when you feed someone a constant barrage of that view of the world.

If Bill Clinton did not encourage every freak and degenerate to crawl out from under their rocks and offer them protection maybe this clown would still be down in daddies basement where he belonged.....

Seth Rogan should make a movie with Will Farrell called “The Two Unfunniest Guys In The World”.

Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow are not laughing...

Neither are we but what are they getting their panties in a knot for? They didn’t write the script and got paid well for speaking the words of others who did.

If you read his manifesto you would see the kid was spoiled rotten, bullied from a very young age, the product of self-absorbed divorced parents and partially raised by nannies. World of Warcraft and online gaming was his escape from reality, but make no mistake it’s reality that warped his brain.
