The T&TMedical Association wishes to express its disappointment with the decision by The UWI to terminate Prof Brendan Bain for statements he made while delivering expert testimony in a court in Belize. This is clearly a case of shooting the messenger!
There is irrefutable evidence that MSMs are at a higher risk of contracting (and spreading) HIV/AIDS. As a matter of fact they were one of the four original groups to be identified as being at risk when HIV first appeared on the scene in 1981 (remember the original 4Hs—homosexuals, haemophiliacs, heroin users and Haitians?) In fact we first became aware of HIV in a cluster of gay men who developed pneumocystis carni pneumonia (PCP) and then another cluster who developed Kaposi’s sarcoma. This prompted the CDC in Atlanta to coin the term “4H disease” and the press coined GRID gay related immune deficiency.
Three decades later we know that the disease is not isolated to the gay community; however they still remain an at-risk group.
The Medical Association in no way supports discrimination of the LGBT community and strongly advocates that all persons regardless of their sexual orientation be afforded the same respect, dignity and medical care. This however does not diminish the reality that risky sexual practices must be red-flagged just as other risky lifestyle practices like tobacco, alcohol and recreational drug use are.
As health care practitioners it is our sworn duty to do so. The cowardly caving in by UWI to pressure from “advocacy” groups that clearly wield great influence as well as control the purse strings is, we feel, a backward step in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Saying that men who have sex with men are at high risk for AIDS is hateful, even though it is true. Lying and pretending there is no relationship between sex among gay men and AIDS is much more loving (except for the down side that lies may lead to more deaths among the people who are being given false information).
Saying that the risk of AIDS is highest among gay men is clearly wrong. Not the fact, I mean just saying it. He should have said it was highest among pink elephants, flying pigs, whatever. At least some people wouldn’t get their feelings hurt about being singled out.
AIDS is the politically protected disease.
MSM... is that sorta like being a queer?
MSM = Men who have Sex with MEN.

Hmmmm.....lessee.....according to the CDC, almost 2/3 of new AIDS infections occur in less than 2% of the population...MSM being the <2%....no...not especially high risk at all.
They are more likely to contract AIDS have an alphabet of other diseases. It isn’t natural to introduce objects in the intestine that passes feces. Semen has antibodies that are meant to surpass the female immune systems. Those anti bodies go into the feces tract and everything get introduced with it.
Then there is a huge host of problems when “leftovers” get introduced into the digestive system. They get a whole host of unknown illnesses that cause serious ailments.
That said, the sex addicted homosexual is no better than the sex addicted hetero, and it is a matter of time before the addiction goes to the next step of deviance.
Chastity is a virtue, God knows what He is talking about. Watch your kids parents, and keep all the smut away from them. If you’re Catholic, keep them in Catholic schools. Etc

it seems to me the difficulty in finding a vaccine or treatment is due to the Political Correctness mainly... And yet conservatives are blamed for inventing the stuff (Reagan).
How can a researcher or aspiring researcher understand the disease if it’s origins are denied.... If it’s definition are so muddy that the Virus is said to not cause the disease etc....

It is extremely difficult to contract HIV through vaginal sex, unless that partner has already been exposed to the virus.

Plus the fact that colon tissue is delicate and tears easy .... allowing fecal bacteria to get into the bloodstream, leading to infection and God knows what else.

Some of the loosest women I’ve ever know were born and bred Catholics. Being a “good Catholic” schoolgirl...don’t mean a thing.

I agree. When I read "MSMs," my first thought was Main Stream Media. Way too much use of acronyms that no one understands the meaning off.
