I think that I have finally recovered from the recent 'do-nothing' hospital stay. Music should be more on schedule now. Connie: Julio Florez - Arrepentida, ( Repeating ), [ Your thing is pure theater. Don't try to apologize. I won't accept your apology. I'm tired of your lies. ]

An Appropriate Name
May 24, 2014
Read: Matthew 1:18-25
The name of the southeastern Asian nation of Indonesia is formed by combining two Greek words which together mean island. That name is appropriate because Indonesia is made up of more than 17,500 islands spanning nearly 750,000 square miles. Indonesiaan appropriate name for a nation of islands.
In the Bible, we find that people were often given namessometimes at birth, sometimes laterthat made a statement about them or their character. Barnabas, whose name means son of encouragement, continually encouraged those he encountered. Jacob, whose name means schemer, repeatedly manipulated people and situations for his own selfish ends.
And no one has ever been more appropriately named than Jesus. When the angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph about Marys soon-to-be-born Son, he told Joseph, You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins (Matt. 1:21).
Jesus means the Lord saves and defines both who Jesus is and why He came. He was also called Immanuel, which means God with us (1:23). His name reveals our eternal hope!
How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
In a believers ear!
It soothes his sorrow, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear. Newton
The name of Jesus is at the heart of our faith and our hope.
In his book Miracles, C. S. Lewis answers the argument against the virgin birth that suggests first-century people did not understand natural law. To this, Lewis responds that the whole motive for Joseph considering breaking the engagement was that he understood where babies come from (v.19). It took an angel in a dream to point to the supernatural source of Marys conception. First-century people, like believers today, understood that for a virgin to give birth would require a miracle.

This week I feature The Genius. For the better part of six decades there was no one like him. Jazz, Blues, Rock, R&B and Country all owe him a debt. He started loosing his eyesight at age five and by the age of seven he was completely blind. The son of a sharecropper, he attended school at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine from 1937 to 1945, where he developed his musical talent studying classical music exclusively. What he lacked in vision he made up for in musical ability and ambition and he cultivated a love of Jazz. By 1943 he was performing on WFOY radio in St. Augustine
Later in 1943 he played with the Adderley brothers, Nat and Cannonball, sat in with the Florida A&M University student band and was playing regular gigs with the musical act "Lawyer Smith and his Band" at the Red Bird Club and Deluxe Clubs in Frenchtown and roadhouse theaters around Tallahassee, as well as the Governor's Ball. He left school at age 15 after his mother died and he moved to Jacksonville with a couple who were friends of his mother. In 1946 and 1947, he played the piano for bands at the Ritz Theatre in LaVilla, earning $4 a night. Then he moved to Orlando, and later Tampa, where he played with a southern band called The Florida Playboys. This is where he began his habit of always wearing sunglasses, made by designer Billy Stickles.
He moved to Seattle in 1947 (where he first met and befriended a 14-year-old Quincy Jones)and soon he started recording for the Down Beat label as the Maxin Trio with guitarist G.D. McKee and bassist Milton Garrett, achieving his first hit with "Confession Blues" in 1949. The song soared to No.2 on the R&B charts and he was on his way. I don't have "Confession Blues", but here's one of his signature songs (written by Hoagy Carmichael) from 1960:
Georgia On My Mind
