Once, traveling on business, I sat next to a guy who said he ran his own company, who for the entire flight insisted that the letter "g" in "paradigm" was not silent. Even the person in the seat across the aisle sided with me trying to convince this guy.

Most annoying flight ever... hearing the word "paradijim" over and over and over...

A friend grew up an avid reader, but had little real-world experience about how some words were to be pronounced.

Only upon turning 20-ish did she learn that there was no tribe called “Sucks” Indians (Sioux).

Nothing much worse than putting up with some misinformed sort who insists that he and he alone knows what is correct even though he might as well be saying that the Sun rises in the South and sets in the North. I listen to some people and cringe thinking that maybe, just maybe, I have said something just as absurd at some time in the past.
