here in Hawaii we ( whites) are totally disgusted with all this OHA ( office of hawaiian affairs ) BS .
They all whine for sovereignty. Sovereignty and a return to what? The ‘old days’ when an ultra wealthy elite ,referred to as the monarchy , lives on the backs of the common people? A return to the days of Kapu , when dozens of ‘laws’ or ‘cultural practices’ resulted in the total oppression of women , their human rights , what they could eat and whom they could eat with ? And zero human rights for any but the Ali’i elite ?

As for the Northern Marianas ; any Americans living there earned their equal rights via the unbelievable sacrifices of the countless Americans who died there fighting the Japs . Who the Marianans made nearly zero efforts to resist .
In short , the Pacific is a beautiful place , but a big mess politically . Including the claim that Obama was born out here .....

The racial laws being pushed in the CNMI, Guam, and Hawaii are more extreme than Jim Crow. Under the "grandfather clause" literacy tests, there was blatant unfairness in how the law was enforced, but some black people (a small minority in some states) were able to register and vote. These laws would exclude whites entirely.

Guam was the only island in the Marianas which was American before WWII--the rest of the chain had been German and then went to Japan after WWI. I don't know how much chance the native Guamanians had to resist the Japanese occupiers.

My father was one of the Marines who helped liberate Guam in 1944.
