Kiev forces have killed at least seven militiamen and injured dozens of people, including civilians, in clashes in the Lugansk Region. Some Kiev troop conscripts reportedly tried to desert and flee to the militia, and were shot at by their commander.
Both sides suffered losses during the battle near the village of Rubezhnoye, close to the city of Lisichansk in the Lugansk region. At least seven self-defense members were killed and 16 others injured, according to the militia. A spokesperson for Kievs troops reported two fatalities and seven wounded among their ranks.
The shooting followed botched negotiations between forces of the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Lugansk and pro-Kiev troops, Ostap Cherniy, a spokesman for the militias, said at a press conference on Thursday night.
When the Ukrainian military with a column of armored vehicles approached Lisichansk, militias tried to negotiate with them, Cherniy said. Shooting erupted during the negotiations.
He added that local residents, including children, were among those who went to talk to the Kiev loyalists. The civilians were trying to block military vehicles of the National Guard and asking not to kill them, he said.
There are claims that at least some of the casualties among Kiev loyalists were not due to the militias. Some 30 of the conscripts wanted to defect, Cherniy said. The militias fed the prisoners and wanted to relocate them, but the other troops opened fire at the entire group, he added.
After they boarded a bus and drove to the college, the military opened fire at the bus with a heavy machine gun, said the self-defense force representative.

Near where this happened, another 17 Ukrainian Soldiers defected to the rebels yesterday, along with their three BMP-2's.
“There are claims that at least some of the casualties among Kiev loyalists were not due to the militias.
A militia member told RIA Novosti that it was the commander of the unit which was preparing to desert who opened fire at his own men. The information was confirmed by one of the defectors, who said he and his fellow conscripts decided to defect no to follow an order to fire at the militias and civilians.
The commander ordered us to open indiscriminate fire, the soldier said during the same press conference, adding that locals saved him from Kiev-controlled soldiers.”
All of this is AFTER parliament demanded an end to the so-called “anti-terrorist” operations.
If these troops were full of gays and women they would be more loyal.
When troops (fighting men) do not think the cause they are fighting for is worth their lives - they will leave or change sides.
Coming soon to many nations of the west...
More fighting reported today, from Strelkov’s Facebook page:
“Good news from one of our battle groups, retired beyond the encirclement:
Destroyed Novonikolaevka checkpoint. Destroyed 2 APC, hit T-64 tank, destroyed 11 enemy combatants, many wounded. Our losses - two wounded. “
Is there such a thing as good guys/bad guys in the Ukrainian mess? Who is who?
Supposedly, this is video of the aftermath of part of the fight, near the train station in Rubezhnoye:
If anyone on here tries to answer you, don’t believe them.
Wasn't this nonsense already sorted previously, or are the Putinists on FR so depraved they don't mind repeating it anyway? The RT article on this claim was a total forgery which was well explained already. FR ought to consider not allowing the use of known anti-American propaganda networks, in the same way we'd close a thread to Huffpo, unless they think a legion of Paulistinians, inspired by this stuff, who rage against alleged "Zionist-EU-NATO" conspiracies is good for conservatism as a whole. What tcrlaf described as a seeming surrender of the Rada demanding a "devolving of powers to the regions" and an end to the anti-terrorist operation, was part of the original Geneva agreement, on the condition that the separatists disarm. A devolving of power to the regions was part of the original Maidan to begin with.
Continually claiming otherwise is merely designed to depict the Ukrainian army as being controlled by "U.S/NATO" and "Right Sector" forces waging war against innocent citizens singing "Peace in our time!" as the bodies of their stinking victims rot beneath some bush nearby.
“Is there such a thing as good guys/bad guys in the Ukrainian mess? Who is who?”
good question...
IMHO, NONE of this would be happening, and a Ukrainian flag would still be flying over Crimea, had the Obama administration not decided to help destabilize the country, to “get back” at Putin for stopping the Syria attack.
When I want to find the truth, the last place I would go is RT. All tcrlaf ever posts about it the Ukraine crisis, and he only cites Putin controlled media.
“FR ought to consider not allowing the use of known anti-American propaganda networks, in the same way we’d close a thread to Huffpo”
Not surprisingly, you call for the censorship of news about current events, not filtered through a news source acceptable to you. Your trolling has already run off most people who would respond to a thread about an important world event, simply because they are sick of your trolling.
Do you have an actual COMMENT about the events listed above?? Any FACTS to present to counter them, if you don’t agree with it?
I’ll be GLAD to review any western media source reporting this event, that you approve of.
No real "good guys," as in a cowboy movie. But you have the Russians, and the Russians who blame the U.S. for what the Russians are doing . . . .
“All tcrlaf ever posts about it the Ukraine crisis, and he only cites Putin controlled media.”
Which must explain why I posted a Kiev Post article this morning, right??
Any actual comments about the content of the article? Or just more raging about the source?
Difference being, when someone posts a thread from HuffPo, everyone knows it’s propaganda. When someone posts a thread from Russia Today (or, ahem, its tweets), they get offended when someone claims it is propaganda.
Opening fire on your own men is a sure fire way to build morale and encourage them to fight effectively. /sarc
As I have repeatedly said, if you have a western source that you approve of covering this story, I’ll be glad to review it.
Until then, you are just trolling again.
Do you have comments about the actual content of the article??
I refer you to my comment #15. And stop whining. Russians don’t whine.

There have been rumblings about the Ukrainian Army deserting or defecting in numbers for a while now. You will note that when they do change sides, the first thing they want is FOOD...
That says a lot about what is really going on right now.
Sometimes, there are no good guys.
Anyone who thinks Putin would behave any differently is naive. Firing on deserting troops has always been a part of war. Anyone who thinks the U.S. armed forces wouldn’t do the same is also naive.
The bad guy in all this is Putin.
