FBI struggles to find pot free hackers

The FBI is struggling to recruit bright young computer programmers because of their fondness for cannabis, according to the bureau’s director.

Under current rules, the FBI cannot hire anyone who has smoked marijuana in the last three years—a policy that rules out many of the best recent graduates.

“I have to hire a great work force to compete with those cyber criminals and some of those kids want to smoke weed on the way to the interview,” said James Comey, the FBI’s director. …

It’s no surprise. The most gifted programmers, researchers and engineers I’ve met throughout my career all smoked tons of bud and occasionally dabbled in psychedelics. Some even made new discoveries due to the different perspectives these substances give.

The older ones were very quiet about it but the young ones today don’t care that much about admitting it.

Wow. We’ve come a long way from the ‘80s. In the ‘80s, the pot-smokers and computer geeks/hackers I knew fell under “never the twain shall meet” category.
