There are big profits to be made, and corruption of our politicians and judges in such a system. Add profits to a system that serves no one but the profiteers and that is the inevitable outcome.
Turning our prison system into a for profit system assures it will only grow and grow to the detriment of taxpayers and society.

Oh this is already well underway. Literally the Corrections Corporation of America has dictated state mandatory minimums for all kinds of low level sentences for the decades since they took managing prisons over..often slipping nice size donations into state legistaors pockets to keep the laws landing small time hoods in the pokey for 5-10 plentiful and potent.
