The 2010 healthcare law has generated multiple controversies, and some of them were unavoidable. For example, once lawmakers decided to require insurers to disregard preexisting conditions -- a reform that most people actually like -- they had to take other steps to avoid triggering a vicious spiral of premium increases. None of those steps would have been popular, although the route Congress chose (requiring virtually every adult American to buy insurance, then creating costly subsidies for those who couldn't afford to comply) may have been the path of most resistance.
Most employers would not drop coverage if the penalties were eliminated. About two-thirds of American workers now have offers of employer coverage when there is no mandate.
Some of the controversies set off by the law, though, could have been avoided had Congress chosen a different approach to overhauling the healthcare system. A good example is the employer mandate, or the requirement that employers with more than 49 full-time workers provide comprehensive coverage to their employees at an affordable price.

You don’t say...
Doesn’t really matter. The damage is done. Even if they abandon the mandate, employer-provided health insurance is going away, which was the only goal.
Of course it’s worth the trouble, it’s only a means to an end, Single Payer.
Enacting the employer mandate would virtually guarantee that the ACA would be buried in an avalanche of public outrage.
It looks like the administration might be thinking about holding off and consolidating gains for a few years before going ahead with the rest of the program.
Too late for the self employed though. My premiums have already tripled and my doctor's medical group rejected my (new) insurance immediately after I visited on a routine physical. Left me with the whole $250.00 bill.
To me this whole thing has gotten real personal.
Sheeperals, maybe...
The “elites” knew this all along and were simply dishonest about it.
You know that your situation makes libs smile, don’t you?
Their main driving motivation is to punish people like you and I using the government as a weapon.
Yeah I’m sure it does. And I hope they go on making enemies.
Captain Obvious has been busted down to Private Obvious.
Every bit of nobamacare has a singular purpose: Single Payer.
How long have we been saying this here on FR?
derive their just powers from the CONSENT of the governed...
They may drop the employer mandate but I’m sure the requirements of guaranteed issue and more robust policies will still be driving premiums up. Without the mandate penalty for non-coverage the number of employees/retirees dumped into the exchanges will be even greater. This could be the end of many employer offered plans all together.
