BFLR
This is an excellent article, particularly because it includes a link to this article:
that actually, in a high-falutin, big word way, says guns are inherently evil because they induce people to do bad things they otherwise wouldn’t do. We’ve always known libs think that way and this proves it.
Blah, blah, blah...it is my constitutional right to keep and bear arms...chances are slim to none I will ever need to use it, but I have it if I need it. And I’m a female too.
I think women suddenly realize what equality is all about. A 120 lb. woman who can handle a firearm is more equal than a 250 lb. male who can't.
Specially when where seconds count, the "professionals" are only minutes (often MANY minutes) away
And when they arrive, they are more likely to arrest the defender rather than simply carting the useless carcasses away...
Even if the perps' families insist that their little angel with the mile long rap sheet was definitely on the path to becoming a scientist, a pilot, a doctor, a pastor, maybe even president, yadda, yadda, yadda!
Excellent point, now consider why this is. There are something like 70 to 100 million firearms owners in the US. The population of the US is something like 310 million? That means only about 1/3 own firearms, or about 2/3 have no direct, first-hand contact with firearms.
Where do you think these people get their propaganda ... I mean "information" about firearms? Right. From the mainstream media and from Hollywood. If those are your only sources of information (first, {Diety} help you) then you are probably convinced there are only two kinds of people that have firearms: cops and criminals.
In the narrative and message put out by MSM and Hollywood private, responsible firearms owners don't exist. So these poor mis-informed and ill-informed people only see us as criminals. It is sad really, millions of people wantonly ignorant.
“My question again, has everyday life come to a point where citizens feel the need to pack a gun when they go out, or is it just a macho thing with some people?”
Just how would you assess the performance of our US Attorney General and President? Do they make you feel all warm, fuzzy and safe?
Brilliant!
I have the Springfield XDs .45 and love it. It fits, with the grip handy, in the rear pocket of my jeans, or in a coat pocket just fine. I wear it on my ankle in my boot at church. Very nice replacement for my still handy .357 five shot snubby. The recoil with standard pressure 230 gr Gold Dots is manageable enough, but I’m 6’3” 225lbs.
I put the Crimson Trace Laserguard on mine, practiced with it for the first time this last weekend. Jury’s still out on whether or not I like it.
And evidently also out of your mind.
I'm older than you.
The only reason I don't own handguns for protection is that I haven't been able to afford one since 2007...
And any gun I could afford to buy today is useless without ammunition, and the current national leadership has gotten away with making it impossible to use handguns and long guns by cornering the supply of ammunition.
By taxing everything related to guns for the sole purpose of making them less accessible.
And, most recently, by threatening banks which have accounts of gun retailers, repair shops sports stores which carry firearms, etc. Under the guise of limiting illegal activities which might make routine use of legally available gun related supplies and accessories.
The Feds are literally extorting (unconstitutionally) legal businesses, banks, by threats of losing their license, persecuting the banks out of existence, rather than the actual criminals. It's easier, safer and more convenient.
What better justification can there be for protecting the Second Amendment??!?? I was unaware that the Bill of Rights, which does not grant those rights, but simply acknowledges them for emphasis, was subject to "easier, safer and more convenient!"
Yes. It's not just crime. It is also the general distrust of and insatiable government eating away our rights, the constant interference of the courts and regulatory agencies that debase the very idea of self governance, the ever increasing police state as documented by youtube videos of abused and sometimes murdered citizens.
All of these things contribute to and culminate in a desire to arm oneself against the obvious decay and eventual demise of civilization.
"i carry a gun because a policeman is too heavy to lug around everywhere"...?

Between poor and miserable, but I do not know what that has to do with routinely packing heat every day.
Keep in mind, I have not been there since 2004.
Reading the post on this thread, however, makes one believe that the US is now like the old wild west.
“It is also the general distrust of and insatiable government eating away our rights,”

I certainly agree with you on that point, but I do not see how a gun is going to save you from the government, unless you are talking about another civil war. That is why I am much in favor of everyone owning a gun, but packing heat every day is a bit much, and I never knew anyone that did.
I think it’s more about visible pushback. People are exercising the right to remind officials that they can.
Look at how it played out at the Bundy ranch where people exercising their right to carry caused the government to go away (although I’m sure they plan to come back another day).
Also, personal protection is kinda useless if you don’t have it with you.
I see it as a good sign. That people aren’t ready to give up and give in to tyranny. I’d be far more worried if people weren’t carrying in increasing numbers.
The movie script called it a 44mag. It was actually a 41mag. I bought one just like it before S&W stopped making it.
“I see it as a good sign.”

Let me reiterate, I am a strong second amendment supporter.
When I moved to the countryside in west Tennessee, a friend gave me a 380 clip loaded handgun for protection. I put it on a closet shelf and never touched it again. I also had a 22 rifle to shoot varmints. I used it one time to kill a wild dog that had killed a few of my cats.
I do, however, see it as a BAD sign if people think that they have to carry a gun to feel safe. What does that say about the country and where it is going?
In the America that I knew, I did not know one single person that ever even thought about packing a gun when they went out the door.
If it really has come to that, I am quit happy not to be in that culture.
Ahh, but that's how they differ from AlexW, you see. Also, Mr. Alex thinks that because he lives in The Philippines he is safe, you understand.
Oh, didn't Alex tell you he lives in The Philippines? He must be slipping in his old age, he almost always tells Freepers he lives in The Philippines, now don't you, Alex?
HOLY MACKEREL!!!
Hiring people to use deadly force for you doesnt make you an innocent.
