(CNSNews.com) - The total number of disability beneficiaries in the United States rose from 10,981,423 in March to 10,996,447 in April, setting a new all-time record, according to newly released data from the Social Security Administration.

The number of Americans receiving disability benefits continues to exceed the populations of Greece, Tunisia and Portugal, and is approaching the population of Cuba, which according to the CIA World Factbook is 11,047,251. The 10,996,447 total disability beneficiaries includes 8,942,232 disabled workers, 153,475 spouses of disabled workers, and 1,900,740 children of disabled workers.

None of those individual categories of beneficiaries set a record in April, but the combination of all three was the highest it has ever been in the history of the disability program.

Wow! I can't believe 60 Minutes aired that. That was infuriating.

They didn't even mention the tax free "crazy checks."

10,996,447: Disability Beneficiaries Hit New Record

I live in a California Central Valley town, and the explosion of "disabled" Amish is nothing short of Biblical "Revelation."

Canes, electric carts, wheelchairs and walkers have exploded. And the way the Zombies use of them is comical to watch, because... well, most of them are not disabled.

I would bet a month's income that if a serious research team analyzed the explosion of use of "disabled" devices, nationwide, in the last 6 years, it would track precisely the explosion of both the number of disability claims, and the taxpayer-funded advocate organizations both promoting and facilitating the applications, they would track precisely.

Sometimes causation is not hard to determine.

Rolling crips. Not just for L.A. anymore...

Central Valley town, huh?

Then you may know what they call three gals standing on a street corner in Tulare.

A full set of teeth.

Ok so it's an old joke, based on questionable water quality and crystal meth use.

One of the great scams in history, disability.

Wow... since Obama came into office,

people have been much more prone to debilitating accidents, it seems.

Those poor people! Must be racism.

I post and post on this, and no one seems really upset.

In the 1990s, ‘the bent one’ supposedly ‘ended welfare.’ What he actually did was split it up and hide it among 80 different Federal programs. Nothing took a hit as hard as Social Security.

Time after time articles are posted here about ‘baby boomers’ “aging population explosion”, etc, etc.

Take the disability rules back to those in place in 1991 and see how quickly Social Security ‘recovers.

And in two years I fear will will have the other half of that miserable POS in the White House.

I really hate charts posted that are illegible.
This particular one is absurd, anyway. It just goes to 2007.
If there weren't an election looming, the end of that chart would go straight up!

Incidentally, I have some serious questions, and I am hoping someone will either have the answers, or know where to find them.

Is "Permanent disability," currently dispensed like candy, legal ONLY before reaching the current legal retirement age?
Does it stop upon reaching regular retirement age?
Does the disability checks continue permanently after starting social security retirement?

I know what the answer should be, but having total faith in the competency and efficiency of the Federal political/bureaucratic system, I feel compelled to ask.

More people working less, in poorer health as a result, and getting older.

Permanent disability from Social Security runs to retirement age and then switches to retirement Social Security.

Getting older isn’t a cause. Once you are 65 you are taken off of disability and go onto social security. A large proportion of disabled are young.

I have been screaming about this since it happened.
No one else seems to care; now, when someone attacks Social Security or the honest recipients who contributed to the system for decades, the are actually attacking the myriad parasites shoved onto the program, and are either too careless or stupid to make a distinction.

Mind you, this is all in addition to the 300% increase in welfare program funding since Omugabe became president.

A search engine really is your friend.

Thank you, Sheana... that suggestion was sweet of you.

But being an old conservative misanthrope, cynicism rules my life.
I don't trus any web site with ".gov" at the end of the URL.

I hereby place in evidence the ACA, aka "Obamacare" web site.

DISABILITY USA

This is a 155 Mb video file, which is not normally "downloadable" through the YouTube site to your hard drive, if you are inclined to share it with your liberal friends.
There are ways to download YouTube videos with a large dose of caution!!

There is a program named "Free Youtube Downloader," but actually downloading it is a journey in frustration, because it can totally scramble your computer with "free" programs that will be installed on your computer, take over your home page and other things that no one wants, unless you are on high alert and examine each window in the process and "uncheck" stuff you are being offered, often difficult to find and see. There is always a way to decline, but it's a process not or the faint of heart.

Unfortunately, few email sites allow attachments of that size (155 Mb)

Thanks one h*ll of a lot for that graph you published. Unfortunately, it says it all.

You can see a bubble start back when that idiot Carter was President. Reagan got it under control, and it stays that way until 1992. Sadly, during the eight years GWB was in office it just continued to climb. And of course the current idiot isn't about to do anything about it.

If I was better at computers, I'd add that graph to every thread until they banned me. It needs to be shouted from the highest rooftop - yet somehow even conservatives don't seem too concerned about it.

If you want to see the true devastation being caused by this, try “heritage.org.” They have made several attempts to find all the places welfare money has been hidden and total it. A couple of years ago, the REAL welfare spending cost was bigger than either Social Security and the Military combined, or Medicare and the Military combined - and was only about 40 billion short of all three combined!

I worked my 40 quarters.
I applied, and was denied, under the wrong category, by them.
I had to sue, to get what is mine, unlike a porch-sitting, low IQ, still waiting for the guvmint, living in dah Ninth ward, with all working limbs.

You loose your job and go on unemployment. Quick like a bunny, you figure out some way that you’re “disabled” and hire a SSI lawyer. It can take a year or more to get disability. In the meantime you’re collecting unemployment benefits.

Finally, you get on disability. A check every month for life. Easy street.

I’m a triage interviewer for a local food/clothing bank. I see this scenario played out over and over again. These folks find a new job: gaming the government out of every taxpayer dollar they can.

I have nothing but anecdotes to back this up, but I bet the fraud percentage for disability exceeds 30%.

And we’re paying for it.
