When my mother in law, who was 75 at the time had back surgery, I took FMLA from work, and flew down where she lived at an independent retirement community. I made her ambulate, and helped her around the house until she improved, which took about 2 1/2 weeks. I did not request a home health aide that the taxpayer would pay for.
She has now moved into our state to be near us in case of medical needs. She lives in a community that assists in transportation to her physician appointments. She is able to afford to live in that community because her husband was a hard worker, and provided for the family ( unlike most Obamaphone recipients) However, when there is an issue, I go with her to her appointments to obtain the necessary information to help her medical needs. I label the meds she is on, check with her about her blood pressure, and call her doc when there is concerns. If, eventually she needs more care, I will take on that responsibility.
So it really gets me mad when people, especially freepers, are too lazy to do that for their own parents. It is shameful.
