Dewhurst says he argued against release of Patrick records 2 weeks ago (Smear backfires on Dewhurst)
Houston Chronicle ^ | 5/19/14 | David Saleh Rauf, Lauren McGaughy

Lt. Gov David Dewhurst spoke with Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson two weeks ago about previously unearthed court documents involving state Sen. Dan Patrick – but said he advised against their dissemination back then for fear the move could backfire and damage his chances of winning reelection.

Dewhurst, in an interview at his Austin campaign headquarters on the first day of early voting ahead of the May 27 runoff, disclosed that Patterson originally reached out weeks ago to discuss access to court filings that could damage Patrick's run for lieutenant governor.

Those court documents were released to state media by Patterson on Thursday and Friday and show that Patrick, R-Houston, in the 1980s was treated for severe depression and had attempted suicide.

Since then, Dewhurst's camp has come under heavy fire, with Patrick's camp laying blame squarely on the incumbent lieutenant governor for the attack. Dewhurst's campaign has denied any involvement and sought to distance itself from the document release.

Dewhurst, who said he had no idea what was in the documents when contacted two weeks ago, said he advised strongly that a document dump could be pointed back at his campaign and "I don't want anything to do with it."

"Whatever you do could have some reflection on me," Dewhurst said he told Patterson at the time.

Dewhurst is a liar and a scumbag and his coordinated smear on Patrick has backfired. Karl Rove is going to lose another campaign.

"I don't want anything to do with it."

Running through the "politician to plain English translator" yields: "Do it, but make sure it doesn't link back to me."

Cool. Not because it's a lousy thing to do to someone, but simply out of political expediency.

Dewhurst is a vicious politician when it comes to smear campaigns.
It saddens me that Newcomer ad Tea Party Representative Bob Hall is attacking Senator Bob Deuell in the same underhanded vicious fashion.

If Dewhurst is gone, Texas is one step closer to open carry.

Dewhurst: “And I don’t want you to release the documents.” (wink, wink)

Dewhurst is a lying sack of RINO crap. The sooner his obstructionist and smelly butt is gone from public office, the better it will be for Texas.

Is open Carry of pistols legal under the Tx Constitution?
I thought there was an exception in the constitution about that.

Personally, open carry is not my cup of tea, but that is a personal choice

When I first moved to Tx, there was a rifle and a shotgun in a rack on every pickup in the state.
No skin off my nose, but I would not display the stuff

AZ is an open carry state and it suits me fine
Now they got the feds shutting that down on national land, which is most of Az.

The legislature can make laws about it. And have, since Reconstruction.

Dewhurst needs to go, so open carry can have a chance.

I love concealed carry, but I'm a little guy, less than 120 lbs, and to carry anything larger than a Jennings .22 is very uncomfortable for me, especially in summer.

I want to be able to open carry so that I CAN carry comfortably and legally. I like large hunks of steel in the 1911 format. I can't carry those concealed. Not and be able to walk, anyway....

No doubt Dewhurst has to go, and I have a similar problem with concealment, I just thought there was some clause in the TX constitution that prohibited open carry of pistols, but not long arms.

Didn’t stop some ol gal from waving around a 44 mag hogleg at me LOL
(I did nothing wrong) Feisty ol gal LOL
Sheriff sorted it out.

Dewhurst has blocked all legislation to advance open carry of handguns in Texas.

Long arms are legal to open carry, regardless of what the local constabulary believes.

I find the CZ 82 relatively comfortable and concealable even on hot summer days.

Do you weigh less than 120 lbs and are you taller than 5'9"?

Concealed carry (without printing) of my preferred firearm is impossible unless swaddled in winter clothes.

And I'm a guy... I'm not going to carry a purse...

My local constabulary has learned to cringe at the words 'lawsuit lottery' along with my little smile. ;)

I don't argue. That's why I pay a retainer to a damn good lawyer.
