I had a great uncle, WWI vet who survived being gassed, who went to the VA for varicose vein treatment around 1959. They ended up amputating both of his legs.
My father-in-law, WWII ETO Vet began went to VA treatment center near South Bend, Indiana, beginning in 2009. They misdiagnosed him which led to his death 2 years later because they were treating him for the wrong health problem, they never figured out what the autopsy showed as the EASILY TREATABLE illness that caused his death.
