>>> Savage might want to look over his shoulder..the latest round of people meter ratings show WOR is now beating WABC on Long Island, the New Jersey suburbs and Westchester County, though WABC still leads in the city. Probably the first time in 20 years WOR has beaten WABC in all three suburban markets <<<

This has nothing to do with Rush or Sean. It has everything to do with the Mets.

The May Talkers list is actually better news for Savage, he gained half a million listeners from last month while Sean lost half million. (Savage had 5 million Sean at 13.25)

I know that Clear Channel made a concerted effort to get the Mets after the Yankees broadcasts moved to their old flagship, WFAN. But I don’t see the Mets as that much of a draw; the franchise has been mis-managed forever, and there are lots of Yankees fans in some of the suburban markets, particularly northern New Jersey. This year’s version of the “Amazin’ Mets” is three games below .500, and they will suffer through another long and painful season. Don’t see them making the playoffs and don’t see them bringing in a lot of listeners to WOR. BTW, if you want to see a market where baseball makes the ratings move, look at Cincinnati; the Reds flagship (WLW) often sees a 25% increase in listenership during baaseball season, and the station is already #1 in the market.

Obviously, it would be helpful to have the numbers for each daypart on WOR and WABC (the ratings typically quoted are the averages from 6 am - midnight, Monday through Sunday). I’ve heard that Rush is doing as well on WOR as he did on WABC, but Hannity is trailing Savage, but not by much.

As I posted here a few months ago, it wouldn’t surprise me to see WOR catch—and pass—WABC in the city and the ‘burbs by early fall. And WOR is operating at a disadvantage, since their “new” morning show blew up after only a week on the air, and they don’t get much of an audience before Mark Simone and Rush come on the air. WABC has Imus; his best days were 20+ years ago, but he’s a known commodity in the market and his demos are pretty solid.
