“I did not read the book, but here’s my report on it” only earned me an “F” in ninth-grade English class.

If only I had known that it could have also landed me a job with Entertainment Weekly...

1. The book is BS because time travel is impossible.

Socialist Utopia is also impossible outside of a prison, but that never stopped them

If the internet had been around, you could have done what some of my students do--instead of reading the book, copy a review of it from the web. Of course the intelligent analysis and scholarly vocabulary usually make me suspicious that they didn't write the report.

I had a student a couple of years ago who turned in what she claimed was her report, but she failed to notice that the review she had copied was about two books, the one she was pretending to have read and another book.
