Updated 6:14 p.m. | Democratic Rep. John Conyers Jr. failed to qualify for the Michigan 13th District primary ballot, a local county clerk ruled Tuesday.
Seeing that I do not have the authority to rule on the constitutionality of laws and statutes, that the County Clerks are bound by, it is my determination that in accordance with the current laws and statutes of the State of Michigan, the nominating petitions filed by Congressman John Conyers, Jr. are insufficient to allow his name to appear on the August 5, 2014 Primary Ballot, Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett said, according to Detroit affiliate WDIV.
Conyers re-election had been a foregone conclusion as it has been for decades until recent weeks, when the 25-term incumbents position on the ballot became imperiled. Two individuals collecting signatures for Conyers ballot-qualifying petition were found to not be registered voters and thereby the signatures were ruled invalid. As a result, Conyers did not meet the 1,000-signature threshold to appear on the Aug. 5 primary ballot.

Conyers doesn’t qualify to be in office anywhere.
Made my day.
Somehow, one way or another, the Rats will make sure he’s their candidate.
Is his wife still in jail? If so he can now have more time to visit with her. Isn’t that nice?
He could probably win as a write-in candidate in the primary.
He can run and win as a write in but this is a solidly GOP state now. Plus it was a democrat who is keeping him off the ballot.
Further complicating Conyers problems is the revelation that one of his petition gatherers is a wanted fugitive, according to local reports.
Proving once again that the dems will do ANYTHING to get their people elected .. lie, cheat, smear .. whatever it takes .. because we all know they cannot run on POLICY .. so they have nothing left but strong-arm tactics.
“...will not be on the ballot.”
Music to my ears. Time Conyers retired anyway.
That assumes that his supporters can write. NOT!
True enough. Indeed, remember the sad case of Alice Palmer. Alice was an Illinois state senator and the Mahdi ran against her in a primary for what was her IL state senate seat. The Mahdi and his accomplices went over her nominating petition signatures with a fine tooth comb and were able to disqualify enough to keep her off the ballot, assuring he’d win the primary. IOW, he knocked her off the primary ballot by proving her campaign was guilty of vote fraud. Now, of course, he and his accomplices say there’s no such thing as vote fraud.
Nya, nya, nya-couldn’t happen to a nicer criminal...
Despite the desires of many FReepers to believe otherwise, Detroit is changing rapidly. They’ve elected the first white mayor in a half century and he was himself a write in candidate. The people are clearly stepping up for their own defense which is an enormous step.
Conyers may very well be done. He can run as a write in and win but I’m afraid he’ll be forced to do it the hard way because the people are growing tired of the same old crap.
Reminds me of Yanks manager Billy Martin. The opponent scores a run or more off a hit, and Martin protests quoting the rules on the amount of tape on the player's bat. The rules said something like no more than 14", and the bat in question had 16 or 18 inches. The game continued under protest, the Yankees lost, and the MLB ruled against Martin the next day.
His core base will vote pure party line until they reach the grave, some even beyond that. However, as time moves on, his true believers are dying off or will remain incarcerated for the near future.
He didn’t’t listen when God told him to retire.
I’m very surprised.
In the past, when the rules excluded a democrat candidate, some judge just overrode the rules.
