Republicans in Oklahoma may have stumbled onto a better idea regarding government's role in marriage. They were angry after a judge ruled their state must recognize gay marriages -- so they proposed that the state stop recognizing any marriages. If you let the mafia do favors for you, don't act all shocked and outraged when that comes back to bite you in the ass. Same goes with favors from government.

A third and more plausible explanation: If a bride got pregnant in June, she wouldn't be too big during summer to help with growing and harvesting food. And pregnant women do not do well in hot weather in their last months. If they get pregnant around July, they will be in their 9th month in March.

Is it because the weather is nice in June?
Nah, too simple.

A requirement for HS graduation should be that every young man take a course on what the contents of the unwritten contract of marriage are.
I sure wish I had.
The entire culture extols the benefits to society, women, children etc. But nobody talks about the hard, legal obligations the man bears and just how weak his position is in the courts.
Your future ex wife can take everything you have, including the kids, and make you pay her to screw the guy down the street. It really is that simple.
