Forest Service says it's mouse habitat
The Obama administrations crackdown on Western land use has sparked a furor over the Forest Services decision to fence off a creek used by thirsty cattle in drought-stricken Otero County, New Mexico.
The Otero County Commission is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss whether to order the sheriff to open the gates against the wishes of Forest Service officials, who have argued that the fence is needed to protect the Agua Chiquita riparian area and habitat for the New Mexico meadow jumping mouse.
Otero County Sheriff Benny House said he worries that the increasingly tense situation could erupt into a Nevada-style melee between ranchers and federal agents.
Whats going to happen here is that we could end up with a Bundy situation, said Sheriff House, referring to Nevada rancher Cliven Bundys standoff with the Bureau of Land Management. Hopefully, we can resolve it without it getting out of hand.
In another display of unrest in the West over federal land policy, about 50 people drove all-terrain vehicles Saturday into Recapture Canyon in southern Utah, an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management that is off limits to motorized vehicles. Hundreds more attended a protest at a nearby park.
Juan Palma, Bureau of Land Management Utah state director, said in a statement that the agency would pursue all available redress through the legal system to hold the lawbreakers accountable.
He said the area is the site of ancient Indian archaeological artifacts and dwellings.
Although Bundy ranch comparisons are inevitable, one key distinction is that the Otero County ranchers, unlike Mr. Bundy, havent broken any laws. They own the rights to the water under New Mexico law, but the creek is within the federally owned forest.

Whether they understand it or not,
a match was struck at Bunkerville,
and the fire is going to burn the feds.
People are just plain “Fed” up.
UN Agenda 21 at work to eliminate private property rights and drive all peasants into high-rise containment facilities prior to their shipment to the incinerator camps.
Here’s another example of a federal government run amok: the feds won’t do their job of protecting the citizens of New Mexico from invasion, but they will protect a rodent from New Mexican citizens.
Yes. It’s more inevitable than ever. When American people saw they can match force with force against the government’s tyranny, the stage was set. My hope is it doesn’t end up like Ukraine, Egypt, et el. Those places suck worse than they did before. It’s possible that 2016 could calm things down, but I don’t think so. Most in DC are completely oblivious to what’s going on.
You can’t post that quote often enough. Thank you.
Exactly, and the local Forest Service was working with ranchers until they got word from high ups in the 0bama administration to close off the water.
Most lefty sheeperals are simply astounded.
One even said in an article, in response to the BLM backing down:
“how DOES one make the federal government back down?”
It’s simply a foreign concept to them that the government COULD be acting illegitimately, and further alien to their mindset that people would take action outside of the court system to thwart them on their illegitimate activity.
Makes me wonder how Longhorn or Outback will introduce the New Mexico meadow jumping mouse steaks on their menu?
I fear the feds will do things that would make a NAZI puke.
Are they trying to Re - Start the Old West Water Wars?
No mousemeat for you!
The DC elites want us all to be vegans.
“Most in DC are completely oblivious to whats going on.”
As are most in Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, DFW metro, Chicago, NYC...
“Most” were completely oblivious in 1776, too.
THANK GOD history has NEVER been made by “most”; it has ALWAYS been “the few” who made the deciding difference.
They seem to be off to a good start, enviro-nazis and government agents had best steer clear of ranchers if they escalate this.
Agreed. Most around here, KCMO, have no idea. When shots are fired, everyone will know.
“...feral hogs are still able to drink from the creek.
Are they still talking about wild animals or the government here?
A turtle, a mouse, a snail darter or spotted owl ...
What difference does it make if shutting down his livelihood forces the unwanted human resident off the land?
It seems as if the FedGov has become the sheep ranchers of yesteryear.....If memory serves, that ended in a ranch war.
Any insights from NM?
Had ENOUGH Yet ?
There are NO MICE in need of Gov’t protection.
This particular mouse is NOT UNIQUE, as was the case of the fabled Preble’s mouse. It was INVENTED for the purpose of stopping development.
Are they trying to Re - Start the Old West Water Wars?
History of the west affirm; Whiskey is for drinking, Water is for fighting. Feds just keeping it real.....
One must remember that “the court system” is simply a branch of government and - like a branch on a tree - will never do anything to endanger the life of the tree. Any such action would be tantamount to suicide.
That is the reason it will be up to the citizens to rein in the government. Think of it as “pruning” a lop-sided sapling to shape it into a beautiful Christmans tree.
Yep, a favorite tactic of the enviro-nazis.
‘Although Bundy ranch comparisons are inevitable, one key distinction is that the Otero County ranchers, unlike Mr. Bundy, havent broken any laws.’——What ‘laws’ has Mr. Bundy broken and if he has, why hasn’t he been charged??

Let them drink milk - Michelle Obama
Once the people realize that the State doesn’t have the monopoly on violence, things get messy.
I wonder of the BLM has thought this through. I wonder if the militias and ranchers have.
No one wins in a failed state.
Those range wars never stopped.
Remember the fights about people collecting rain water on their property? It wasn’t the BLM screaming, it was the ranchers. People end up dead over water rights often enough out West.
Water is for killing, whisky is for drinking. Until you have seen it, it is hard to describe it. That is part of the reason I don’t like this trend. If the ranchers win, you will see groups going back to the old ways of “burning out” as many of the other people as they can.
...feral hogs are still able to drink from the creek.”
And the damage they do is incredible! I have a good friend who breeds/raises/trains Catahoulas.
And how is it that the two were able to peacefully coexist until now?
The city folks are no longer going to be allowed to make the rules that dictate what happens in and about our homes and our country culture. That is done.
There are some struggles yet to come but most of us have already made this decision.
The socialists from the big cities act like they have the answers. They tell us that the society and culture that they have made for themselves is something that we are supposed to value. This is a joke, and a bad joke at that.
No, we do not value the racism, the hunger and poverty and violence of the inner cities. We openly reject the oppressing federal and state laws that have been passed to try and clean up the mess that the liberals have created.
If you want to find a huge disaster that is doing great harm to Americans look to the nearest city that has been ruled by the liberals over the last few decades.
Each and every one of these places are on the brink of bankruptcy with high violent crime and homicide rates. It is all theirs. We don't want it, don't value it, and do not value the liberal mentality that made life that way in their cities.
We will not take any responsibility for the city culture of death and destruction that they created and choose to live in. It is yours, your fault, and now your bed to lay in.
To the liberal socialists I will bluntly tell you that we will not allow you to make that same mess in our back yard that you have made in yours.
We will not allow you to install your culture here either. We are good with our own culture, our ways, and our own values. I know of no place within a hundred miles where I can not walk with my family is safety. I will keep the culture I have and the cities can have theirs.
Liberals need to remember one thing. Without the liberals telling us what to do, where we can and can't be, how to live, and how to think, we will still have water, food, fuel, and electrical power.
Without the red areas of this country the liberals will not have......
Just a little food for thought.
So why does the mouse have more rights than the cow?
Cause some animals are more equal than others. /s
Yeah, we’ve pretty much seen that come to complete fruition in the past few decades.
Gov’t no longer exists to maintain an environment where people can safely conduct their lives, rather
under the guise of fairness, its primary function now is to protect itself and grow.

They can fence off the water from cattle but they cant fence off the border from illegals?
An excellent point...One fits the agenda of the elitists in DC and the other doesn’t.
We all know what fearsome predators cows are!
This federal gub mint has got to be neutered.
I’ll second that.
IMO It's far more probable that the militia have, for the simple reasons that they're more likely to understand the Declaration of Independence than, as a whole, government agents.
Thanks for the ping Dave.
Anyone who sees more info on this topic, please ping me... I'm close enough to go support the 'rebels' if necessary.
It’s time for Governor Martinez to team up with the Sheriff, and overrule the Forest Service. It is New Mexico’s land, not the federal government’s, no matter what this or any other administration has to say about it. States need to take control of what rightfully belongs to them.
