Either the Vatican is trying to put a positive spin on some outright stupid remarks the Pope said, or the MSM is trying to manipulate Il Papa's words to fit their agenda.

It depends on what the meaning of "legitimate" is. If it means "authorized by government" then it is forced redistribution. If it means charitable giving, perhaps enhanced and encouraged by government (charitable deduction, examples set by leaders), then it's a more traditional Christian sentiment.

I don't know his intention.

Then you’re not paying attention to what he’s been saying and doing. If this latest gaffe was was an isolated incident and out of character with many other remarks and speeches, then yeah. Give the man a pass.

But - sad to say - This is very much in line with the many other leftist things he’s said and done since taking the job of Pope.
