Senator Tim Scott is a product of Republican reverse racism and low expectations, according to a Bloomberg News editorial board member.
In a racially charged screed entitled Do Republicans Lower the Bar for Blacks? Francis Wilkinson dismisses South Carolina Republican Scott, the first African-American to represent a southern state since the Republican senators of the Reconstruction era, as a thing most rare and precious who offers the GOP both an absolution for the past and a shield for the present and future.
Wilkinson offers little evidence for his thesis, and at least one claim that Scott has achieved his place in the Senate by being so far to the right that there was no space for a Tea Party challenge that seems to suggest Scott holds his seat through his own political abilities rather than any special racial treatment from the GOP. Nevertheless, he sums up his racial theory confidently:
In effect, South Carolina Republicans treat Scott like the national party previously treated the ham-handed presidential candidate Herman Cain and the partys not-quite-competent chairman during Obamas first term, Michael Steele: They are members of an endangered political species for whom the bar is effectively lowered.
Affirmative action based on race has taken quite a beating at the Supreme Court, in state legislatures and at the ballot box. In the Republican Party, however, affirmative action can punch your ticket like nobodys business.
For the record, black Democrats are held to the most rigorous standards of excellence and skill:
I thought this was surely satire.
This white reporter writes an article like this and it gets by the editors? If you want to see real racism, look at this.
Lowering the bar? I don’t recall Tim Scott ever publically worrying that the Island of Guam may tip over.
Yeah right, and Cynthia McKinney, Shelia Jackson-Lee and Hank Johnson are members of Mensa.
Republicans are racists even when they elect African-Americans.
And cold weather is caused by global warming.
Cummings is probably right up their with them...
That, and his conservative views, are the real reason the Democrats hate Tim Scott.

This is rich, considering the Marxist academic the country put in the White House - twice - with ZERO on his resume to merit the job. Leftists are hypocritical twits.
This is utter historical revisionism. It's the 'Rats that should beg for "absolution for the past" and "a shield for the present and the future." They are the party that for the most part supported slavery before the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction after it, was much more entangled with the KKK, opposed federal anti-lynching laws, supported Jim Crow for the nearly 100 years it was in existence, and opposed in much greater percentages than the GOP the Civil Rights Acts of the 1950s and 1960s. More recently, the 'Rats introduction and support of Great Society programs have harmed blacks specifically by contributing to black family breakdown and black-on-black crime.
Where’s the black outrage at this racist screed? Where’s Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and all the other race hustlers? Silence. Just proves that their claims of racism have nothing to do with race and everything to do with political ideology.
You never know. Could be that MENSA had an Affirmative Action program forced on them! :)
Why does the GOP need an ‘absolution of the past”? ‘Shouldn’t it read the ‘Democrats need absolution of the past which is why they pander to the black community?”
Hey, look at Obama. The RATs lowered the bar for octoroons!
Jackson, Sharpton, and company will never come to the defense of a black conservative no matter how unmercifully and how unjustly he or she is attacked by a leftist of any color or ethnic group. That's been proved time and time again.
Please see my post # 13.
Wait long enough and the Dems true racism always shows up.
