I frequent the foremost aviation forums, and have seen virtually NO mention of such a thing.

The source is me. I only know what was being said on the SoCal approach control frequency at the time. Numerous flights with GPS failure. For multiple airliners to lose GPS at the same time as a bogus story about a U2, makes anecdotal evidence more empirical than a “news story.”
