Exactly.Twenty years in medicine + having to go through it with our Dad suggests that as a likely explanation.
Taking away the keys to the car, moving mom into ones home, or a facility is part of it.
That's what we had to do with our Dad.He wound up living in my home for the last 6 years of his life as he slowly deteriorated mentally and physically
If the cops were totally wrong here, Ill take it back.
It seems possible that the cop was partially wrong, probably because of lack of experience and/or training with such a situation.I used to work for a neuropathologist and you can bet your bottom dollar that there'll be an autopsy and hopefully her brain will be closely examined by an experienced neuropathologist. Her medical and psychiatric history should be closely studied as well.My money's on at least one major red flag turning up indicating a medical explanation for her behavior.
Sure.
And a 93 year old out of touch with reality can shoot people dead.
The whole thing is sad and ugly.
My 93 year old aunt lived in NYC. Nice apartment. But she locked it up.
But like a vault. We called it the vault. Bells, whistles, chains, dead bolts.
She didn’t have a weapon. OUr family would have been embarrassed leaving her with a weapon to defend herself, or endanger herself.
Though I know cops are over zealous some times maybe often and that abuse of authority is bad, and just as deadly.
They vary a lot. I can recall working at a religious retreat back in the 60s. An old preacher came by and asked if he could get a couple of guys to help clean up the yard etc. at his cabin.
He turned out to be an interesting guy. Both he and his wife were in their 90s and both were in good shape. They went and got hamburgers for us and themselves.
The only thing which made me realize he was so old is he paid us about half what the job was worth, but then again we could probably have told him that was not enough if we wanted to.
