Mexican Cartels invest in medical marijuana business DEA claim Tuesday 6th May 2014

DEA confirm cartels investing in medical marijuana and legitimate pot business. The Mexican mafia are using their cash mountains to invest in the legitimate marijuana industry in Colorado, US DEA agents claim.

In a move which has long been predicted, federal agents believe that Cartels have already invested millions of dollars for starters and have arrested one key player, the FDA report on a half a million dollar charge.

They have invested in the pot industry and the medical marijuana business which represents a very astute move by the cartels as the heat continues on their illegitimate drug efforts.

It seems that the cash investment is an attempt to clean the money and also, go legitimate eventually as the cannabis market increasingly becomes legal across the US.

On the street, it appears that Colorado, home grown pot is better quality than that brought over in thousands of tones by the Cartels and this is one response, Tom Gormon, a DEA spokesperson in Colorado said.

"From what we're hearing, Colorado marijuana is a lot more desirable than the Mexican marijuana. So for the cartels to compete, they have to upgrade their marijuana, get out of the business or try to get involved in the business in Colorado,” Gormon told the NY Daily News.

And so it seems that the Cartels having lost the war on quality are adapting and investing in the legitimate industry. We can see more of this kind of activity over the next few years, the DEA, say.

Remember Fast and Furious? An arsenal of weapons was curiously handed over to the Sinaloa Cartel. Those guns were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent people, including border security.

In April 2011, a large cache of weapons, 40 traced to Fast and Furious but also including military-grade weapons difficult to obtain legally in the US such as an anti-aircraft machine gun and grenade launcher, was found in the home of Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo, a prominent Sinaloa Cartel member, in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Torres Marrufo was indicted, but evaded law enforcement for a brief time.[58][59] Finally, on February 4, 2012, Marrufo was arrested by the Mexican Police.[60]

On May 29, 2011, four Mexican Federal Police helicopters attacked a cartel compound, where they were met with heavy fire, including from a .50 caliber rifle. According to a report from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, this rifle is likely linked to Fast and Furious.[2]

And why shouldn’t the cartels get into the legal/medical marijuana business?? Big money to be made there.

Competition is good, in that this should reduce the price consumers are paying for it.
