JOBLESS CLAIMS UNEXPECTEDLY SPIKE

Jobless claims hit 344,00, unexpectedly rising for the second week in a row.

Consensus was for 320,00, down from revised 330,000.

A Labor Department official said claims tend to be more volatile around Easter.

The four-week moving averaged also claimed back to 320,000, an increase of 3,000.

The consensus seems to be that yesterday's abysmal Q1 GDP figure was a blip. "Among the indicators suggesting much more strength than Q1 GDP is the ADP series; it was reported up a healthy 220K in April," HFE's Jim O'Sullivan writes in a note this morning. "We still forecast a 3.5% pace for real GDP in Q2. We also forecast a 185K rise in payrolls in the BLS report on Friday, a little below the 215K consensus but a solid number after allowing for the tendency recently for upward revisions to initially reported data."

Here's what the moving average has looked like until today.

How many weeks and months in a row do they get to claim this is unexpected before it becomes expected?

“A Labor Department official said claims tend to be more volatile around Easter.”

Some Atheist, Marxist in Obama’s Labor Department is blaming Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection for this bad jobless report. It’s probable that the 987th straight unexpected raise in jobless claims has nothing to do with Easter.

Sadly, I don’t hear that much any longer about the lack of jobs crisis.

I think it’s like gas prices - we hear about how high they are for awhile, then it’s like we get used to them.

Has American gotten used and is willing to live with the fact that jobs are few and far between?

But...but think of all the construction jobs the tornadoes will ‘create!’ Shovel ready! Boots on the ground! Lunch pails packed!

Um...wait...compared to the loss of life and income from those whose lives and most likely JOBS and personal BUSINESSES were also destroyed in the storms?

Um...probably not much more than a ‘blip.’ But they’ll tout it anyway, the b@stards!

Five years of economic misery and they’re still calling the dismal numbers “unexpected”. What we have here is a deliberate effort to cover up abject failure.

People in America no longer ‘work,’ Judy. 62% or so are on the dole in one form or another. Well, except for me. I’m still pulling the wagon...much to my own chagrin.

And you’re clever to observe how we’ve all been frogs in a pot of slowly bowling water; too lulled and stupid to jump out in time before we’re boiled alive!

You think China, India, Malaysia and Indonesia are going to give them back?

Aren’t we supposed to spread the wealth over the whole world and do you think our labor unions will make us competitive?

If the manner in which our small business got slammed this year in taxes and addn'l costs is any indication I'd say you are right.

If the rest of the country got "pantsed" as badly as we did the shooting would've already started.

If under a Republican administration gas prices rose sharply and/or unemployment was stubbornly high, there would be a relentless drumbeat of negative coverage in the media. Belive me, you would hear a lot about every little disappointing number. The MSM is totally corrupt.

"JOBLESS CLAIMS UNEXPECTEDLY SPIKE"

I've lost track now...

Are when in "Recovery Summer 5.4" or "Recovery spring 5.5"?
