Carl Paladino, the conservative businessman who pulled off an upset to win the Republican primary in the 2010 New York's governor's race, is counting on Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney to pull off a similar upset in the state's 22nd Congressional District.
Paladino said today he will back Tenney, R-New Hartford, in her GOP primary campaign against U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld, the two-term Republican who faces his second consecutive challenge from his party's conservative base.

I hope Tenney wins this one. I’ll tolerate RINO’s up to a point, but Richard Hanna has gone way too far, even if he was from a Democrat-leaning district.

Tenney should win. I hope the Northeast will elect conservatives to Congress. OK, they might not be moral conservative, but fiscal and small government conservative.
The good news is that Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney is both a social and economic conservative, and has a good chance of defeating pro-abortion RINO Richard Hanna in the Republican primary.
The bad news is that even if Hanna loses te GOP primary, he will be on the general election ballot as the nominee of the Independence Party, and no Democrat will be on the ballot, so Hanna can win reelection merely by getting the Democrat vote and a small portion of the Republican vote.
Can Hanna then claim to a Republican Congressman nationally after he got elected by defeating the candidate chosen by Republicans? There should be some kind of rule to prevent liberals like Murkowski and Hanna from doing that and falsely representing themselves in public as Republican Party officials. In either scenario they should be listed as an Independent who is caucusing with the GOP.

If folks in her district write a letter to the editor, including her website, maybe some readers will donate to her campaign.
I doubt the party would do a thing to alienate any member by refusing to list them as a Republican just because they betrayed the party process.
It doesn’t make much of a difference anyway. Bernie Sanders and Angus King aren’t listed as rats but that doesn’t make any difference to anything other than the number of rats is listed as 53 with an asterisk rather than 55.
It would be symbolic gesture with no real upside, if they conferenced with Republicans they’d still be viewed as Republicans.
They could instead get the balls to kick them out period, tell them they can’t conference with Republicans or take a Republican spot on a committee and will never under any circumstance ever receive official party support if they ever run as a Republican again. But they wouldn’t want them joining the rats, so they wouldn’t do that.
Somewhat related, it’s interesting what the parliamentary countries do to any politician with a scandal, kick them out unless and until they are cleared. Grimm would be an Independent right now if this were Canada.
Hanna is afraid to debate Claudia Tenney. Hope voters know this.
