Indeed. I did that math some time ago with my nephews, who now know that a Southwest flight and a taxi at each end would be cheaper than the proposed infrastructure cost alone, never mind operating expenses. For the next thirty years.

and you know a plane is a tad more flexible travel option than a fixed rail system. less prone to earthquakes and derailments.
