Unfortunately he is one of a type-Brit who comes to America to make money and enjoy freedoms but sneers at Americans, our values and much of our constitution. My late boyfriend was like that—he lived here for 27 years and never got citizenship. They can’t vote, but never shut up about American elections, etc. A lot of them work in advertising( where they’re especially gifted) or media. Remember the novel Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe? There was one in there.
When I visited the British Isles I braced myself for a lot of Anti-Americanism, but was pleasantly surprised not to encounter it. It was 1980, though. And I guess that visiting American World War II veterans get treated well. My uncle did, and he had only been a cook. But he got to meet some of the same people who had been around during the war near where he was stationed.
