As a matter of fact, I contribute to our state sheriffs association because the money goes to education in the law, life saving, etc.

Sorry to distract from the topic of this thread...

Several years ago here in Texas there was a big phone scam going on, where the caller would indicate he represented the State Sheriff’s Assoc. and that they were asking for donations to help in improving/maintaining their training regimine that provided for safer communities, etc., etc.

Enough concerned citizens made inquiries of their local Sheriff’s office about this request for money, when taxpayers’ dollars supposedly paid for such, that the public was officially notified that it was all a scam that was taking advantage of the citizens. The public was told to never donate to such calls and the scam went away.

I know better than to get scammed.

The North Carolina Sheriff’s Association is real.

Even so, we regularly get scammers who call representing some LEO group. It is not hard to spot them.
