Smaller classes in St. Paul schools mean less room for diversity

The St. Paul teachers’ contract may have an unwanted side effect: Limiting school spots for the city’s integration effort. The class-size limits heralded as a key facet of the new St. Paul public schools teachers contract are complicating efforts to boost enrollment and blunting an initiative designed to integrate some of the district’s most popular schools. That initiative, Reflecting St. Paul, was launched this school year and seeks to open seats in 11 schools to students from neighborhoods with lower incomes, higher percentages of non-English-speaking families and lower test scores. Under the program, the students, many from minority groups, are entitled to one-fifth of the available seats in each school. Availability hinges on how many seats remain open after first being allocated to children living within each of the respective school communities. With the new class-size limits, however, the schools had fewer seats to begin with in planning for the 2014-15 school year. For Reflecting St. Paul, in particular, the school-choice lottery results, as of last week, reveal a 41 percent decline in student placement at the 11 schools — from 378 students in April 2013 to 222 students this year.

The unions used to say they needed more money for ‘smaller class sizes’.

Now they’ll need more money for ‘more diversity’. (IE: forced busing)

OH, come on St. Paul liberals. You can do better than this timid effort at "Reflecting St. Paul". After all, diversity is our strength and should come first.

So, implement widescale bussing. Bus kids of every color in every direction until every single school looks like St. Paul

Diversity comes first, at least that's what the leftist whacko hyporcrites tell everyone else.

Because nothing teaches a kid to read and do math more efficiently than having a black kid on your right, a vietnamese kid on your left, a pacific islander in front of you, and an american indian behind you. This is tongue and cheek of course, since diversity to the left means only black and sometimes mexican.

Hint: Class sizes of (1) will guarantee no diversity. Also (0) does the same. Other than that, not so much.

What is the end-goal for integration? Who do they think it benefits and why?

Yes, but when the school scores plummet, the teachers union and administration will blame it on “diversity”. We cooda done gooder but all the trashers, haters and wreckers did us in.

What can be going through the mind of a person who sincerely believes that a student cannot learn unless he or she is surrounded by students of different ethnicities? Liberalism is a mental disease.
