Died a hero. No greater love hath he, that lays down his life for another.
Amen and roger that. Honor, Courage, Commitment.
He wouldn’t have had to if his shipmate, the female Petty Officer of the Watch, had done HER job of keeping the bad guy from coming up the brow. But no one of any substantive rank will take official notice of that fact.
The gunman disarmed the “Watchstander” what the hell is that?
Gender-neutral version of watchman, the sailor with the job of standing at the gangway and ensuring that only authorized persons board the ship.
My sisters and I are in the process of moving our parents into assisted living. We are making a list of what they can take. One of the first items was the frame with dad’s brother’s posthumus Navy Marine Corp Medal and his dolphins. One of the saddest but proudest events in my family’s history.
Honors to your uncle for his dedication and service.
That’s a whole other can of worms. I wasn’t planning on touching on that one.
This guy was a straight up hero.
Now, having seen it brought up, yes as a vet, I don’t think the ladies should be in those roles... for a large variety of reasons.
RIP,brave Sailor.
Hey Bulwyf, we agree on two things for a change, to wit:
1. Today is Honor Mayo day and we shouldn’t dwell (today) on how “political correctness” put a young lady where she shouldn’t have been put.
2. I am so proud of Mayo! He was John Wayne that day!
Wonder if they “picked” today knowing the CIC would be out of the country.
Yes, he is a hero. Because he did what the average man in uniform would do - try to save the life of a woman at the expense of his own. It’s just how we’re built, regardless of what feminists would have us believe. Fortunately, I retired from the Navy before the debilitating political correctness got so far out of hand.
hero. but needlessly b/c of a woman doing a man’s job for PC purposes
