Employment Minister Jason Kenny has announced an immediate moratorium on the fast-food industry's access to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
The suspension, announced late Thursday afternoon, came shortly after the CBC told Kenney the CEO of McDonald's Canada had branded recent criticism of its use of temporary foreign workers "bullshit" in a conference call to franchisees.
A recording of that call was given to the CBC.
In a written statement announcing the suspension, Kenney says "serious concerns" remain following a government investigation of the allegations raised about the program.
The CBC's Go Public has produced a series of stories reporting how some franchisees at McDonald's were allegedly abusing the program.

Workers alleged Pelletier made sure the overtime pay they received came back to him — in cash — and that he even drove employees to the bank and waited while they cashed their pay cheques.

Most countries in the world think that their businesses should make a reasonable effort to fill their jobs with citizens and legal immigrants before importing more. Most countries except ours.

The thing that perks my ears up is that they’re doing this for low-level work, not (just?) for the traditional “skilled workers”.
Our immigration policies are out of step with the world.
Also, notice how quick Canada is to react when there is clear cut abuse.
....agreed, all this while Obama lays out the red carpet for 20 million new yankee doodles coming through south of the border ....
