Lee Bright: Sotomayor Slips … And So Does Lindsey

“Wise Latina” Support and Graham’s Sub 40 Poll Numbers

Justice Sonia Sotomayor slipped up this week and exposed herself as a race baiter in her official dissenting opinion in the Michigan case. Meanwhile, Lindsey Graham’s approval numbers continued to slip-slide in the Winthrop poll, diving below 40 per cent. Are the two stories related?

“Certainly the Michigan ruling had nothing to do with Graham’s approval problems in this particular poll,” said Lee Bright, the top challenger to Graham in the upcoming Senatorial Primary. “But his many foolish decisions, like supporting Sotomayor for the Court, are coming back to haunt Lindsey Graham. I think most of us in South Carolina knew from the start that this woman did not belong on the court. Her beliefs are alien to our principles. Then again, Lindsey Graham’s beliefs are now alien to our principles too – and that’s the problem.”

Michigan had extremist affirmative actions laws in their university system, and the Supreme Court affirmed a lower court decision to strike down that law by a 6-2 margin. Sotomayor and Ruth Ginsberg, known as the most radical liberal on the Court, dissented. Sotomayor called the ruling “out of touch with reality.”

Bright responded that “perhaps Lindsey Graham can now tell us who is out of touch with reality – he, Ruth Ginsberg and Sonia Sotomayor? Or us? Or maybe he will step up and admit that he made a terrible decision when he supported her nomination. But frankly, even if he did that, it doesn’t change the fact that he gets cowed by the liberals all the time now. This is now who he is.”

The Winthrop pollsters surmised that, unlike an earlier report by Politico, Graham does face a “battle ahead” since long-term incumbents normally find it impossible to improve approval ratings this late in the game.

Mygosh, did Lee Bright get some better advisors? Running against anyone who supported Sotomeyer is smart. And he’s out front on this one.

Yes, hitting LG on Sotomayor is a great issue. Check out the GOP senators who voted for her nomination (only LG and Lamar! to go).

But with Lindsey, it's a target rich environment of issues to hit her with!

Nice how it’s tied to a bad poll for LG too.

What you mean, he’s been out front on all issues. You just may not have seen.

Same advisors….but they can’t control what the media picks up….go to his website and you’ll see exactly this kind of repsonse in the blog section….a trail of statements, press releases, etc.

Don’t you love the way Lee just calls it like it is….minces no words, and gets the dagger inserted just deep enough….

“What you mean, he’s been out front on all issues. You just may not have seen.”

I do news searches for him all the time and never find any. Though I’m not naïve, the media probably blackout or purposely don’t publish any stories because they’re out to protect Lindsey, to maintain a solid democrat vote in a conservative state.

I hope he’s all over the news down there.

I think the re-nomination of Cornball in TX automatically means more Lindsey Graham will be inflicted on uninformed Americans.

Most of the challengers have been relatively quiet. It’s disconcerting.

Nancy Mace offered this in an email this morning:

We must stop the NSA spying program now:

While I appreciate the challenges of keeping America safe in a post 9/11 world, I simply value the Forth Amendment rights we hold as Americans too much to forfeit our privacy and freedom to the federal government. Unlike Senator Graham, I do NOT trust this government, or any other government, to be responsible with vast amounts of private information of US citizens.

We cannot raise taxes on American families and businesses:

While many people object to Graham’s less than conservative voting record, it seems Graham’s poor record on taxes and spending gets lost in the debate. I believe Senator Graham’s vote to increase taxes by over $600 billion and his numerous votes for added spending on things like the Wall Street bailout are among his worst as a member of Congress. The people of South Carolina work hard for their money and know better how to spend it than the career politicians and corporate welfare crowd in Washington, DC.

As South Carolina’s next US Senator, I will NOT raise taxes. Period.

The US should concentrate on building up our own country rather than spending money on foreign aid:

Too many politicians and bureaucrats have allowed other priorities to creep into our country’s foreign policy decisions. I believe it is wasteful and shameful that we often give money to country’s that hate our values and burn our flag. America should be focused on what is good for America, not playing geopolitical games to satisfy special interests. As our next US Senator, I will work to ensure no American taxpayers are funding nations that chant, “Death to America.”

I will fight to protect EVERY life with EVERY vote I cast:

While Lindsey Graham likes to talk as if he’s a pro-life conservative, the sad truth is Graham cast two votes that were devastating to the unborn. Senator Graham voted to confirm both Justice Sotomayor and Justice Kagan. Those votes for two pro-choice Supreme Court justices reflect a disconnect with Senator Graham and those of us who see life as a non-negotiable from conception to natural death. As our next US Senator, I will always vote to protect life.
