This tweet came from BBC Moscows acting bureau chief: Kevin Bishop @bishopk
Urgent: hostage @SimonOstrovsky free and safe with me in car en route to Donetsk @RadioCanada J-François Bélanger
Simon Ostrovsky is free - BBC has spoken to him direct. He is on his way to Donetsk.
VICE News is delighted to confirm that our colleague and friend Simon Ostrovsky has been safely released and is in good health, VICE said in a statement to Poynter. We would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time. Out of respect for Simon and his familys privacy, we have no further statement at this time.
Looks like the job pays well.
Vice has some interesting videos. My favorite is the one about Heimo Korth (sp?), the North Slope homesteader/trapper.
They have another one about a cantankerous old cattle rancher hermit who lives in the wilds of Patagonia that’s worth watching.
I was in the NYTimes building they day one of their reporters in Iraq/Afghanistan had been killed. Quite a few people were all worked up, crying, and decrying the injustice of it.
I almost got tossed when I asked what they expected going to a war zone and interviewing the enemy.
So I suppose you were just lucky getting out of there alive.
Well it wasn’t like they were going to hurt me. I think the worst insult for them is to call you a Tea Partier.
