The new fad for “somatoform disorder” has every parent with a chronically-ill child worried.

I didn't realize it had reached the level of a fad. Could be -- isn't the BCH psychiatrist who started all this doing "research" to prove somatoform disorder is the true cause of 50% of childhood illnesses?

Yes, and other doctors are bringing it up in cases where diagnosis is difficult. I have two friends with children who have chronic headaches, and if a doctor mentions somatoform disorder, their reaction is “Oh, freep, get me out of here!”
