After Zeituni Onyango, the woman President Obama once called Auntie, died in a South Boston nursing home this month, her closest relatives gathered her belongings at her nearby apartment. There, framed photographs of her with the president covered the wall.
Weeping before a polished wood coffin at her wake this past Saturday, they described Ms. Onyango, the half sister of the president’s father, as “the spirit of the Obama family” and talked about raising money to send her body back to Kenya. Mr. Obama helped pay funeral expenses and sent a condolence note, Ms. Onyango’s family members said, but the president did not attend, as he was golfing.
Every complicated family is complicated in its own way. The Obamas, in that sense, are ordinary. But the natural drift that has occurred within the family — already separated by oceans and languages — is exacerbated by politics.
“He leads his life, and I lead my life,” said Mr. Obama’s half brother Malik Obama, who flew in for the wake and spoke emotionally about Ms. Onyango, his aunt, who was 61. He said he “wouldn’t say” he and the president had stayed close. “Because even my other brothers and sisters, they are all over the place,” Malik Obama added. “Right now, I would say that things have changed.”

In the time-honored tradition of eccentric presidential relatives, the assorted Obamas have faced deportation and drunken-driving charges, started Obama-branded foundations and written memoirs.

For someone who wrote not 1 but 2 autobiographies about his search for identity among his father’s people he sure treats them like strangers.
If have to wonder what’s up with Obama. If there was ever a man running away from his past, he’s it.
Sociopaths care for no one. They may put on an act for various reasons. But a sociopath like Obama couldn’t care less about other people. It’s all about him and his “needs”.

Can’t blame it on race. Britain has the same sort of violent youth culture with its white as rice Yobs. This sort of violence is the inevitable result of a welfare state combined with modern nihilist philosophy.
I call BS on this. “Amid politics?” Har! He’s been drifting away from relatives his whole miserable life because he sees them all as hindrances to his career, it’s nothing more complicated than that. His relatives were merely the first in a long line of people he’s used to advance himself. When he croaks, he’ll be alone in this world.

good catch. Someone on a visa needs a sponsor. Was Zero her sponsor? If he was, when auntie overstayed her visa, what reporting to what agencies did he do, as her sponsor? And if he was, how much does he owe Uncle Sam for his auntie being on public assistance? (and, who was uncle’s sponsor?)
