COLUMBIA, SC U.S. Senate hopeful Bill Connor has received endorsements from two S.C. conservative groups in his bid against U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.
The Conservatives for Responsible Government of South Carolina and the Association of Black Conservatives have announced their backing of Connor, an Orangeburg attorney and Afghanistan war veteran and one of six Republicans hoping to beat Graham in June's primary.
Bren Gibson, president of Conservatives for Responsible Government, announced the group's endorsement in a video.
Gibson says in the video, "Bill has been fighting for our national interests in the Middle East and now wants to carry on that fight to defend our constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to Washington, D.C....We need more senators and representatives in Congress who have a military background."
The Association of Black Conservatives, according to its Facebook page, is a Chicago-based grassroots organization.
It's founder, Rowena Booker, lives in South Dakota, but has Tea Party ties in South Carolina where she used to live and led the S.C. Black Conservatives.
Booker said of Connor, according to his campaign, "This is the man to replace Lindsey Graham. Bill is the one who can get the job done. We not only need control of the Senate, but we need to replace moderate Republicans with conservative ones where we can. ... Bill is a man of good upstanding character, a family man who is firmly dedicated to upholding the U.S. Constitution as he continues to serve in the military, defending the best country in the world-the United States of America!
