Meanwhile, David Cameron has just set the police on the Bishop of Oxford for protesting his government’s policies.
They say “the narrow constitutional sense” because that’s what they mean. There is an established church, and that is part of the current constitutional settlement, but that settlement doesn’t define the character of the nation. Britons don’t worship their constitution in the way that Americans do.
Do not confuse worship with honor & law, although all of these help define what is virtuous.
A common history, common descent & a culture which reflects such, with commonality of purpose, are among the principal things that define a nation. Contemporary Britain has confused all sorts of issues, and is making a bit of a mockery of her heritage.
